These kittens are in the care of Canterbury CP, Kent.. this update is from their current fosterers.. 2 females torties are looking for a  home together.. Photos to come but there is a photo of one of the sisters on our website www.canterbury.cats.org.uk
Homechecks will be required and we will need the co operation of another CP branch or rescue to carry this out if they are offered a home outside our area. They will be chipped and first vac before rehoming. Donations gratefully received

For more details pls give us a ring on our branch line 01227 360432

Mustard, Marmalade, Marmite and their little brother Mo (short for Molasses) were born at the beginning of May in the wild to a feral mother.  They were rescued by the Cats’ Protection at the beginning of June and have been living with us almost ever since.

Kittens born in the wild to a feral ‘mum’ do not have a chance to observe other cats interacting in a positive way with humans so they can be slow to socialise and learn to trust.  When we first met Mo and his 3 sisters they were tiny balls of fur that would hiss and spit whenever you went near them.  For their first couple of weeks with the cats’ protection league they lived in a kitten pen as they slowly got used to their new environment and the humans that were looking after them.

It wasn’t long before they were out of the pen and living amongst us in our lounge.  We have tried hard to socialise them and get them to trust us and have made a lot of progress but they are still not as friendly as kittens born to domesticated cats.  They have lots to offer, however, and plenty of potential to develop further as they find new homes and owners that are prepared to invest love and attention in them.

The kittens are very playful and are always racing around after the toys that we have for them here.  They also love to play chase if you dangle something for them to run after.  While they are in the thrill of the game they completely forget their inhibitions and will run all over you in an effort to catch the toy.  However, they are still frightened by sudden movements and strange people and when confronted with a new situation are likely to hiss quite vocally.  The hissing noise can be quite loud but it is all talk – they have never lashed out with their claws or used their teeth to bite us.  They make the warning noise and then run to hide. Catching them can be quite a challenge but once you have them on your knee they have some of the loudest purrs I have ever heard.

Mo and his sister Marmalade have already found a new home to go to once they have had their first round of injections but we are looking for a sympathetic owner for Marmite and Mustard, someone who would be able to be patient and give these cats time to build a bond of trust and affection.  Mustard is the prettiest of the three tortoiseshells and very playful.  She loves to climb and is often to be found curled up with Marmite.  Marmite is the mouthiest of all the kittens.  She is the first to hiss and hardest to catch but it is only because she is the most nervous.  Once you have her on your lap she is an absolute pussycat and has the loudest and throatiest purr of them all.  She is always the first to come running when you are trying to play with them and is very lively and energetic.

If you think you could offer a home for Marmite and Mustard please get in touch with us as soon as possible.  These kittens are ready to be rehomed and as soon as they can meet their new owners and start to form a bond the better their progress is likely to be.
