I had a Goldfish as a childhood pet. He was called Bob. I didn't choose the name but when we got home from the pet shop I asked him what he was called and he answered Bob, Bob, Bob.... luckily I could lip read.  :naughty:

I'll get my coat...  :sneakin:

To answer your question, MM, Goldfish are carp with pretty skin pigments. They will do a cat no more harm than eating a sardine will. There are many hundreds if not thousands of carp recipes available (all of them attempt to address the fact the carp are full of bones and taste like  ). Carp have been a food stuff and valueable source of nutrition for peasants in many cultures for centuries.  :tired:

The fact we eat the brown ones and stick the gold ones in tanks and call them names like Jaws or Moby Dick is one of those things which make humans fickle.  :evillaugh:

   for MM...

:evillaugh: Guess it's the same as pigeons being eaten as a delicacy, kept as 'pets' for racing or called vermin.

This is the Crucian carp, the relation to the gold fish
and Chinese eat them

the reasion I don't want my cat eating them due to bacteria in captive kept fish.
I keep koi my self. Rivers are cleaner.

I wouldn't recommend feeding goldfish as a staple part of the diet but seeing as cats eat pretty much anything (rats, mice, birds, insects and anything else they can nick) I doubt it will any harm having the occasional one! lol
In ancient times cats were worshiped as gods; they have not forgotten this.

No idea but I'm very glad this is in the 'general cat chat' section rather than 'non cat chatting'  :evillaugh:

Love the photo of her spoils too but poor fish and poor pond owner  :-[

Well i wouldn't eat one my self, I don't think it's a good idea as their full of bacteria.
My old cat wasn't fond of dead gold fish or koi fish. They don't smell to good

At the end of last year lola came home with a tasty goldfish (see pic) it was rather cold for a fish that should have been at the bottom of a pond for the winter  :shify: :shify:
In the last week we have had 2 goldfish corpses in the garden, assumed hunter is lola. The bodys are mainly eaten, the other reason i think its her as shes back on steroids and has the munchies  :Luv2:
Are they safe to eat? I know they can have some raw fish in their diets but not sure if goldfish fit in this bracket?!
