Thanks Christine  :thanks:

Mosi's teeth and gums will be very grateful!  I'm sure Jaffa will get a few licks too.  There's no way I can get it out without giving it to both of them as they both love it.

That's very kind of you, Christine!  If you're sure you don't need it I'm sure Mosi will be happy to have it (not).  Thanks.

I've got some gel I haven't used - I'll pop it in the post for you, Susanne.  Will be Tuesday so you'll get it on Wednesday (unless it goes via your neighbour again!)

Fingers crossed - and if he is insured, yes, you might as well see a specialist for it. Tinky's owners are using Logic Gel and Plaque Off and they bought some Hills ORalcare biscuits for her.

That's what I'm hoping, Desley.  Compared to pics I've looked at on the net his aren't too bad at all - just a bit of redness along the gum line.  I think it makes sense to get him seen by the specialist, esp as insurance will pay most of it, just so that I can be sure that if he needs any treatment he can get started on it sooner rather than later.  I'm out of logic gel at the moment but when I get paid next week I'm going to order some more and make a point of rubbing it on the gums where he has the gingiviitis.

Good luck with teh specialist Susanne - my ex foster Tinky had inflamed gums, and they just ran blood tests - hers is due to the calici virus, but they have only advised brushing her teeth, not said it could be anythign serious. She is less than 1.

The little monkey's back to his usual self now after being a bit quiet yesterday.  I'll try my best to get a photo later on today!

Well I've just taken a photo but it didn't come out too well.  I think I'll be able to get a better one later.  The gums that are inflamed are at the back of his mouth so they're not easy to get to but I've now got the hang of lifting his lips so that I can see them, so hopefully I might eventually get a decent pic!  It will actually be useful for me to have pics as I plan to get some more logic gel (ran out and been a bit lax getting some more) and apply it at least once a day to the inflamed gums.  Then in a couple of months I can take some more pics and may be able to see if there's been any improvement.  The vet didn't suggest there was any urgency about seeing the specialist so I'll wait a couple of months.  Jaffa's due to go back with his vomiting problem soon and I can only deal with one at the vets at a time!.

Glad to hear that Mosi was such a good wee boy at the vets  ;D

Hope the gingivitis isn't to serious and the specialist sees Mosi quickly.

Sending him lots of love and cuddles for being such a good wee man  :Luv: :Luv:

I'll try but it's hard enough opening his mouth to get a look without juggling a camera too as he's a wriggler!  I'll have a go when he's sleepy and see if I can get a pic.

Mosi back from first booster vet visit - some good news and some bad news
« Reply #1 on: April 03, 2007, 09:52:35 AM »
Well, Mosi was at the vet this morning for his first booster and health check.  He's not been seen by a vet since he was neutered at 5 months.  He was a good boy (though he did wail for England on the way there) and seemed to enjoy the attention.  The vet commented on what a sociable cat he was and oohed and aahed at his lovely coat.  Even as she was drawing up the vaccine he was rubbing his head against her hand!  The hardest part was keeping him still as he wanted to wander all over the place investigating.  And he weighs 3.4kg  ;D  Which is about what I guessed (he's not been weighed since he was a small kitten but I was saying to a friend at the weekend I guessed he'd be about 3.5kg).

The bad news is that he has some gingivitis.  As he's only one this could be potentially serious so the vet recommended he see a specialist to check it out.  Abys and Somalis are more prone to gingivitis.  Fortunately the vets I use is a referral centre so they've noted the recommendation on the computer and I can just ring up in a few months and make an appt with the dentistry specialist.  And it will be covered by insurance.
