Yes thankfully a farm took the 2 kittens now called Pixie and Dixie, and after a few months the CPL also persuaded the farm to take another kitten which we were unsuccessful in socializing.  He was extremely timid!  We now have 3 of the kittens ourselves along with mother who has calmed down a lot.  We have been very lucky.  Many thanks!

My Sasa is like what Sweepster said and I accept that she loves me in her own little way but is never going to be fully domesticated. She loves her home comforts and loves Misa and will occasionally eat out of my hand, all on her own terms but now being about 12 years old and being here 6 years I dont think she will get any tamer.

Pussy however is a little domestic cat that hasnt learnt that other cats will be her friends.................maybe she is right with mine LOL............they just dont have enough courage to move towards her in my presence

My views aren't too popular with some here but I think a good quality stables home with an owner prepared to watch over their needs is preferable to spending many months or even years trying to domesticate a cat who doesn't want to live too close to humans. 

Good luck with them, wherever they end up I hope they are happy and have a secure future. 

I agree. I don't think an animal that doesn't want to socialise with people should have to.  I have a hamster that by rights should be fine with handling (he was the result of two "females" I was given) but he really hates it so I allow him that choice!

Have to say being Mother to 31 ferals ranging from nice to very nasty and pretty much like Pinkbear would give them a go for taming having done 4 last year and have several adults as work in progress I use Zylkene, Feliway, Rescue remedy and lots of treats and feather sticks and yes we have the welding gauntlets to

If you are going to give the taming a go them seperate them - we use CP kitten pens for this or the odd dog crate and then do intensive handling and treats - my youngest is a feral kitten she is now 20 weeks and work in prgress but has bad eyes currently and is being handled and creamed and tablets twice a day She purrs up a good storm now and is ok with the eyes being done to

I think this is spot-on.  There are cat lovers who will accept a nervous/unsocialised cat on its own terms and understand that it may not ever become fully domesticated but will provide care and allow it to feel safe and in control of its interaction with humans.  Here is Catchat's list of cat rescues in your area (I think?) in case there are any with greater experience of ferals and semi-ferals who would be able to offer support and advice:

Well the problem is that it takes a very special kind of person to work with timid and/or challenging kittens. Not every CP fosterer has the courage, experience or facilities. If you are used to cute purring fluffballs a spitefire can be taking goodwill a bit far. Don't forget we are all volunteers how recieve no formal training and do it for no reward at all.

If you were in our patch, they'd probably have come to me as I've got the mahoosive gauntlets and don't stand for kitten-nonsense. Played that game for longer than they have and know all the little tricks.  I am a rarity though and of all our fosterers I only know of 1 or maybe two others prepared to attempt to bring round feral kittens compared to 14/16 other regular fosterers who specialise in purr-pots. Have to say, though, even myself with 5 months olds I would give them 2 weeks to see if they might come round and if I saw no improvement I'd be looking for a stables home for them. No point putting them and me through all that if you're only going to turn round 3 months later and things are no further forward  My views aren't too popular with some here but I think a good quality stables home with an owner prepared to watch over their needs is preferable to spending many months or even years trying to domesticate a cat who doesn't want to live too close to humans.

Hi - Happy New Year all!.
I thought I'd replied to this yesterday but can't see it yet.  A bit more info about the 2 kittens.  I thought they were 2 of the most docile kittens you could get.  One of them - Pixie was content just to stay in 'bed' most of the time with mum.  In fact we sometimes used to give her some treats in bed when she couldn't be bothered to get up to eat with the others.   The other one is also quite laid back.  When she was caught in the cat trap though she absolutely freaked and went mental.  We took her over to volunteer's straight away.  At one point when volunteer (we'll call her Ann) was trying to get her into the trap again (I think to take to the vet's) she was bitten and I think Ann and her friend have been bitten or sratched a couple of times and they therefore do not think either of them is suitable for rehoming and are now asking us to take them back
I think the whole experience has been very shocking for them as they have gone from being able to roam anywhere but having nice place to return to, to being cooped up in tiny pen, taken to nasty vet's and having to live amongst other cats they don't know.  I think they would make reasonable pets. 

The kittens we have taken in - 2 from same litter are fine.  One is happy and eager to get stroked and loved by my partner - runs away from me though!  The other still hisses when I walk by but is happy to play with me if I have something that takes her attention.   

Mum appeared around February in extremely cold weather and we made her comfy in log store and fed her etc.  She was obviously a stray but very timid and we have never managed to encourage her inside her house.  We did manage to catch her and take her to get spayed after 2nd litter (only one survived from first litter - Squeaky!)  It was probably meant to be as we were still trying to get over the death of our beloved little dog in the previous November!

Squeaky used to play with them outside and now and they all get on fine.  So we have 'rehomed' them even if it's only from our garage (where they did get to know us )sucessfully and have no regrets!  I think Pixie and Splodge would make good pets but maybe not where there are children or other pets?  Ann, however says that people want cuddly cats and I have to accept what she is saying as she must know more about cats than I do.

ohhhh...I see, well it is independently run from head office (so they will rehome FIV+ and cats with calici and pancreatitis and all sorts, they only pts if it is in the animals best interest health wise) as they have a very good attitude.
We have had a few semi-ferals go through since I have volunteered there and they have been re-homed or are still there and being socialised. We have one cat who is unfortunately extremely aggressive and has sent several people to doctors with their injuries and yet they have a home lined up for him, and should it not work out, he will be back, they have repeatedly said he will not be pts because of his behaviour.
So, yes, my convoluted answer (sorry, lol), they will do ferals

I think Squeaky was asking if they deal with ferals and semi-ferals?  Our local branch of RSPCA will automatically PTS ferals so hopefully Ashford has a different policy. I know for sure they'll be okay with Celia or with Rolvenden.

Hopefully they would be able to, if you give them a ring and explain the situation then fingers crossed they would be able to help. A couple of months ago I would have said a definite no, as they were overflowing and turning cats away, but the emergency pens are currently empty (they were when I was last in) so you never know...

Have you contacted the RSPCA in Ashford? they are near the train station, I volunteer there but haven't been in for the last week or so, so can't say they will take them in, but last time I was in, numbers of cats were under control so they may be able to squeeze a couple of more in. Good luck!

Hello everyone and Merry Christmas. Sorry I didn't go through the introduction procedure!  To cut a long story short I need to find a home for 2 kittens who are currently being looked after by local CPL volunteers.  We gained a cat and 6 kittens, and not having had cats for a while this was a shock.  CPL have helped and now mum is speyed and 2 kittens.  We have adopted 3 and getting used to having pets again.  The mum and another kitten are living in our garage and are warm and well looked after - kitten very shy
The lady who is looking after the other 2 has asked if we can take them back as they feel they will not be able to rehome them as one is a bit difficult to handle and the other not interacting in any way and hates being in the pen.  I don't want to take them back if I can help it as I am moving towards getting the other kitten rehomed as well(CPL were said they would take other 2 and then said they were full).  Maybe these kittens would be best in a semi-outdoors environment.  They are lovely cats - 5 months old now one is mainly white with black smudges and the other white and black - blotchy!  The mainly white one we call Pixie because of her pink ears and the other Splodge.  I am in Ashford, Kent so if anyoine know somewhere these kitties would be happy, could you please let me know?
