Is any type of nepeta catnip/catmint?

Mine is potted and in an old fishtank with trellis over the top so it's protected while it gets bigger. I never had to protect the one in the picture as my own cats seemed to understand the "everything in moderation" rule unlike my neighbours cats.....

The problem I have is to get it established. I've had at least four attempts but The Munchkin digs it up and eats it within days!

Thats well cheap -i paid more than that for the seeds.

It's rare round here that's why I was asking. Because at 89p I'll be getting a few....

My catnip plant at the moment (well, last summer and hopefully this one if I can get next doors cat to stop spraying on it.... ) :

I have planted a fair bit of different varieties around 2-3 weeks ago -not seen anything coming up as yet - but a bit optimistic as i suppose it takes double that time to show anything !?
I bought all colours -blue, pink and white .
One is called Nepeta Parnassica -blue flowers and supposedly stronger stems that grows to 6ft high ( fat chance here with Winston sitting in the pot with it  )
Nepeta Subsessillis- also blue flowers and i think come in pink also.
Nepeta Cataria -original and white flowers- also Lemon smelling .

I have one that has lovely blue flowers and my cats love it....unfortunately so do my neighbours! I'm hoping to get them one of the 89p ones to put in their garden.

I think all the varieties of nepeta contain the oil that cats react to - although nepeta cataria is what they call 'true' catmint.

Nepeta cataria is the one known as catnip (catcrack is my preferred term after the havoc wreaked by our neighbour's cat when we wrapped him up a packet of dried stuff for Christmas, and the neighbours left it under the Christmas tree  ).

The others are, I think, catmint -  but I'm not sure if they still attract cats, are less appealing to them, or not at all...?

For 89p though, definitely worth a go!

Just wondering as I've found plants for 89p!! The description simply said "nepeta" and nothing else though.
