We have to time out Hazzle a lot, he is a burmese and has no concept of not being allowed to do something, if we didnt calm him down he would literally have the house in bits, he pulls all the kick boards down off the kitchen cupboards, he swings on the door handles, he wails and wails until he gets what he wants and sometimes we just dont know what that is. So he gets time out in the utility room we only leave him for ten minutes but when we go back in he is usually asleep in the basket that is kept in there.

I would never put Jaffa in time out as it's just not the right thing for him and he would never understand. Mosi is different though and with him it's a case of getting a bit hyper and what he needs is time to calm down a bit (and time for Jaffa to be free of him for a while if he is being jumping on) so it works well. He is quite funny though as he knows when he's gone too far and time out is looming so takes himself into the living room rather than wait to be put there by me. I shut the door on him and he goes quiet. When I go out to him after 5-10 minutes he's usually lying somewhere quiet and calm so he gets a kiss and told he can come through now if he wants. He usually pretends that he doesn't want for a moment and then he comes in and usually behaves himself (if it is night time and he's been put in time out for being hyper and jumping on Jaffa when the latter just wants to get onto the bed and settle down on his bottle for the night).

Poor Mosi, I feel so sorry for him sometimes...........but then I dont have to live with him

I couldnt put any of mine in time out unless it was to stop others or them being hurt and in the early days I had to shut the birmans in the bedroom to stop them attacking the big cats.

He hasnt 'done anything particularly naughty (yet). Just generally Mosi naughtiness. He was a pain last night demanding attention all night long and sticking his head in my bags, playing with the lion picture, chewing a cardboard box containing cat food and so on. Then he jumped on Jaffa at bedtime and he knows that isnt' allowed. We made eye contact and I could see instantly that he understood time out was coming so he dropped his head slightly and trotted obediently out into the living room. I shut him in there and me and Jaffa had a bit of cuddle time without him. Then when I got into bed, I heard him with something that sounded like plastic packaging. On investigation, it turned out he'd got into the big food cupboard (my fault for not shutting the door properly - I have to give it a good push but the kitchen door tends to prohibit access anyway) and helped himself to a small bag of applaws salmon cat biccies. I got those off him and went back to bed. So he then started climbing the wardrobe and scratching at the wallpaper in the corner

Eventually he settled down and I woke up this morning to a little fluffy bundle lying against my legs. I think someone swapped cats in the night.

Well he wasn't really naughty last night. A bit more jumping on Jaffa (who seemed to quite enjoy the play), a bit more noise, a bit more climbing the walls but he also slept a bit and was very sweet and cuddly. I think he's planning something.

Yes, His Mosiness earned himself a gold star last night. He was a very good boy and let me trim his claws without any complaint whatsoever. He only jumped on Jaffa a couple of times all evening too (Jaffa looked puzzled at bedtime when he was allowed to jump onto the bed without being ambushed by Mosi for once). Part of that might have been that I put a new microwave in the kitchen so the old one was on the floor - something new to investigate thoroughly, but he was such a cute, snuggly boy all evening. He did knock the lion picture wonky, but that's a daily occurrance and to be expected. I'm either going to pay for it tonight or he's turned over a new leaf. I actually couldn't find him come bedtime and then discovered him in his carrier looking adorably sweet.
