I just read that report again. They really don't know what to spend their money on next, do they.
We could have TOLD them that.
Certain dog breeds are viewed as status symbols by the less 'economically mobile' (that's 'Chav' in a more polite term
) and almost obligatory possessions in these circles (who also tend to be less well educated and unlikely to be graduates) so therefore by default more cat owners will be graduates.
Now... I
could argue the assumption that intelligence equates to educational achievement is a mistake. Or I
could say it's incorrect that all graduates are automatically intelligent, or the assumption of the lack of intelligence of non-graduates is fundamentally flawed as it fails to take into account educational opportunities, peer pressure and other life chances and the effects of social stereotypes within this group... but I really can't be ar**d.
