I started taking it last week after reading that it could be helpful for IBS. It is totally safe to take (as toxic as water) so might be worth a try. I have been looking this morning and there are some positive comments about it. My symptoms have improved quite a lot which could be coincidence or due to the fact that I changed to Aloe Vera high-strength gel caps from juice and also changed from regular to ground psyllium at the same time. Anyway, it is really cheap (about £6 for 100 capsules in Holland & Barrett. A cat dose would probably be 1/4 - 1/2 per day).
I think it would be worth trying as it is totally safe. It is added to a lot of joint supplements but also supposed to be good for the gut and lots of other things. Amongst other things, it helps with inflammation but is drug-free. I don't think it is a "snake oil" as it is so cheap. It is supposed to be one of the most bioavailable sources of Sulphur.

This suggests 500mg is a normal dose for a cat

The purest form is American-made OptiMSM

There are quite a few suppliers in the UK that use it in their own-branded capsules.
I also found this article about giving it to animals

Off topic but our local Holland & Barrett has a sign up for a 2-days a week sales assistant. OH says I would do really well there, helping people buy hundreds of things for their hypochondria
(I take at least a dozen different things)
