But they might not have had an option, Gill. Who's to say what their living arrangements are? Theoretically, what if most of them are friends rather than family, living in rented accommodation that won't allow pets? I think it must've been tough on him, to make this decision.

All I can say is I would rather live in the car than stay with any of these people who have caused him to give up what he really cared about!

It's not really something we can get very involved in as we just do the cats.  :innocent: But from my limited knowledge of the situation I recall he had some support from friends and relatives. I think the main reason why he was living in his car I gather was because of the cats - no one was prepared to take them in or allow them in the house and he wouldn't leave them outside on their own.  :briggin: So hopefully now puds are safe he'll maybe be offered a sofa and a bath, etc. ;)

Poor chap, i wonder if he has been to his local council for housing advice? Although they may not be able to offer him accommodation, they may be able to
give him the contact details for local hostels and/or help him into a room/flat to rent privately. Poor man. Poor cats.  :'(

Both now in care. Well loved cats and the poor man was in tears! Obv well spoken he may of been a business man in the past.. Came with lots of stuff and full vet history...

Lets hope his life improves.. We will give  him an update in a few wks, but i doubt they will be with us that long.. Being such well looked after they should be easily to rehome!..

Boos for other rescues failing to helpwith this situation..Sometimes we loose sight of things...

Fosterer Sharn also said that we think he was so glad for our help, but so tearful he could not really say it!

That's the problem. If one of ourl limited number of fosterers end up with cats for a long time, it just means more other cats are denied a space.

Well done CCP, it's a shame his cats can't be fostered until he sorts things out but I suppose the outcome can't be guaranteed and he must have so much on his plate right now, hope that thing improve for him soon

Given the circumstances, Sharon is willing to pay for a cattery space if there is any room. All stops will be pulled out as it isn't fair on the cats or the man for them to be living in a car. Hopefully something can be sorted out tomorrow.

I have talked to this man and he sounds very siincere.. The cats were with his MIV over Christmas but no she want have them as not an animal person, there are children involved but i think they are with relatives.. I did not go into great depth unless he wanted to say... He wants them to go together and be rehomed.  We are working on a plan.. asap..It has helped with them being fully vac with certivates to prove so (which is unusual)... He is obv upset and nearly choking with tears..We will offer food for the cats to help, if  it takes a few days to organise but hopefully not

We only really tend to talk about the cats. I won't be speaking to him again. I would guess he has been seeking advice so hopefully social services would give him numbers. It's a shame as if he was an underage chav with a baby, he would have been rehomed instantly.

Poor man with his cats living in his car
« Reply #1 on: December 30, 2009, 14:38:09 PM »
I spoke to a man a while ago who has been made homeless. His MIL had been looking after the cats for a while but is no longer able to so they are living in his car with him. He said he has been trying for 2 months hoping that his circumstances would change but he is up against a brick wall. I asked about vacs etc (explained that if there was space in  the cattery it was a legal requirement) He said they are neutered, chipped and up-to-date with vacs and he has the certificates. He said they are sister called Candy and Floss and they will be 5 in Feb. He has had them since they were kittens. He is heartbroken but knows he doesn't have any choices. I told him that it was obvious he loved them and realised he wanted the best. I didn't want him to feel any worse than he already does.

He said although he is heartbroken - if we can help him, it is one less problem he has to deal with.

Really sad  :(

Sharon is going to see what she can do for this man.
