We all feel we let our cats down when something like this happens but we can do nothing about it - it's horrid and I still blame myself for Smudge going missing for 7 months and then not finding him the night I followed up on a phone call and he wasn't there. The morning after he was killed ny a car.

God bless.

I am so sorry Carl, my thoughts are with you and special hugs to Baggins.   I know just how you are feeling right now and there is nothing we can say that will take away the pain except that many of us do understand - the shock combined with the grief make things so difficult to cope with.    Gorgeous Bilbo knew such love in your home and you were lucky to have found each other, we are all here for you

But keep your chin up, you have been such a wonderful daddy/butler/servant to him, he enjoyed a great life with you so be proud!  He will be watching over you, well at least when he is taking a break from all running around over the lovely rainbow bridge.  He won't be short of lovely companions up there either  ;)

Hi Carl
I wanted to say that my thoughts are with you.  It is so hard not to blame yourself and I really understand how you are feeling, but Bilbo was a free spirit and he had a wonderful and full life with you.  Please do not blame yourself, as you say he wanted to be outside and would not have been the same cheeky man if you had forced him to stay inside.  These things happen although I can never make sense of why our babies are taken from us too soon.
Give Baggins a huge hug and be there for him as he needs you more than ever now.
Dont for a minute think that this was your fault.
Cxx

Carl my heart is aching for you and Laura and Baggins, I think so many of us have known the shock, the pain and blamed ourselves when a little one has been lost on the road, I certainly remember as I lost Iris this way a few years ago. I also remember going through agony feeling that I must keep all the free roaming cats indoors forever, thankfully I came to the decision that was right for my cats and gave them their freedom and happiness, if this is what Baggins needs then allow him out, you will never stop worrying but in time you will realise you have done what is best for your boys.
As for Bilbo I think you will allow me to say that he was always cheeky and freespirited I can certainly remember being put in my place by him while he was here. I know that Bilbo and indeed Baggins shone in your care, cant help but think of the photo of them on the raft when you were flooded out, such a wonderful home.
Anyway enough of my rabbiting on, if I ever escape from this hospital and when you are up to it come and see us

Carl , it is NOT your fault - its a horrible horrible accident , and it's just so heartbreaking that sometimes by giving them the best life we can we sometimes have to risk this. I promised when I took on Jery and Gizmo that they would be able to have outdoor access , and they do. They would be miserable if they couldn't go out , and I am sure it was the same for Bilbo.

Thank you everybody.

I just can't think right. We miss him so much. I used to tear myself to pieces about letting him outside but he loved it, it was his life. I'm just lost now, I've been sat crying since yesterday. I don't know what to do about Baggins. My boys were the main part of our life.

I'm sorry Teresa.

It broke our hearts to lose you, you did not go alone,

You left us peaceful memories, your love is still our guide,

As Teresa said, you most definitely did not let Bilbo down; you loved him and cared for him and you can't be held accountable for everything that happens when you have such an independent, spirited animal as a cat share your home and your life.

I'm hoping you're all coping and that Bilbo has reached the Bridge quickly.
