He's a danger to himself with collars  :censored:  When he was first let out he was on a harness and extending lead and he kept going up trees - with me attached.  And he just seems to try to strangle himself with collars.   I did wonder about getting a radio tracker for him - one so huge he can't move around with it attached!

:thanks: so much to everyone for your advice and good wishes - the links on here on what to do when you cat goes missing really helped as there were a lot of things I'd never have thought of doing.

Thank god hes home  ;D
I dont normally use collars but think a safety release one is a good idea for a special needs cat with outdoor access, hes a very very lucky boy

I don't think our council does have a scanner - I did go to the RSPCA centre and gave them a poster too.

However - all my walking round in the ice and snow late at night has paid off - he's home!  Came in covered in cobwebs at about 6.15 tonight and now won't leave me alone.  Poor little mite is starving but fine otherwise.

Thanks so much for all the advice and good wishes, also the tips on what to do to look for him - I am fairly sure it was the wandering round calling and carrying chicken that did the trick.  Unfortunately it's made me feel dreadful so I'm off to bed!  My cold/cough has got100 times worse but actually I don't care any more :)

Your council will be shut but phone and find out if they have a scanner, sadly not all do, also make a point of reporting him to all rescues especially a certain organisation who dont follow by the rules.
I would also phone vets out of the area incase someone has well meaningly done a mercy run on him, not all are up on scanning  :tired:
I hope hes home soon

I wonder if they are losing their way in the snow and they cant even smell where they have walked and it will all look different

obviously I'd rather he came wandering back in as if nothing had happened.

We do hear this happen a lot   I wonder if they sometimes wander and well-meaning people take them in if the weather is harsh...

Christine, no problem, I am still fairly new.

Advert has gone in the paper for tomorrow for a week, and there is a poster up in the shop now too.  Not a sign of him, but I do have a large family near us looking out for him as they all know him and there are so many children, one of them just might see him somewhere.

Even if he's been run over, I still want to know - although obviously I'd rather he came wandering back in as if nothing had happened.

I'm working my way through all the tips - Lost advert is going in the paper today, I'm putting up more posters and have phoned all the vets in the immediate area.  I'm also waiting for a call back from the Street Scene :(    And I'm going back out again tonight when it's quiet to see if I can hear him.  OH doesn't want to be traipsing the streets at night so I'm on my own doing that which isn't much fun.

Ah, I can email the poster to the person who edits the local newsletter, too, that's one that hadn't occurred to me until I read all the tips.  Hopefully he can help.

I do so hope Baldrick will turn up safe and well

the more neighbours who know he is missing the less likely he could have met with an accident without you knowing, cos someone would have seen him and will let you know

Lost 20th December 2009 - black male cat: he's home!!!
« Reply #1 on: December 22, 2009, 20:26:58 PM »
Baldrick has gone missing - last seen at around 4am on Sunday 20th December at Hanwood, Shropshire.  He's only got one eye and is nearly blind in that, so should be quite easy to tell apart from any other black cat.  He's microchipped but doesn't have a collar on.

I've put notices through every letterbox on the estate and have some posters to go up in the local shop, have pestered neighbours to check garages (even though it was -2 on Monday morning).  Have just seen the advice on this board about checking with estate agents so will phone the housing association tomorrow as there are two empty houses by us.

I work for the fire brigade and haven't seen any calls to rescue stuck cats, although will double check that tomorrow too.  Radio station has been asked to mention him.

I hadn't thought of environmental services - are they likely to have picked him up on a Sunday though?  I know there was no dead cat outside from 10am onwards and I didn't see anything when I went out at 8am either.
