Thanks Clare

She is being more of a Willow now - ie telling me off and being mental skittish . When she is all soppy and hanging over my shoulder it just isn't the Willow we know.

DO NOT BREED OR BUY WHILE SHELTER ANIMALS DIE

I believe I am not interested to know whether Vivisection produces results that are profitable to the human race or doesn't. To know that the results are profitable to the race would not remove my hostility to it.  Mark Twain

I think you are right - I think it has a similar effect to activated charcoal - ie absorbs toxins.

Anyway, she seems a bit livelier today but I am concerned about the uraemic smell about her  :( - Clapton has never had that.

I will give it a go but I don't think that it actually neutralizes acid?

I am concerned about messing with her food so much. She is happy to eat food with Renalzin in which has Kaolin in which I thought was supposed to help with acid.

I mentioned to the vet recently about her stomach gurgling. I said to OH last night that I hate the idea of her having acid burning but I know vets here don't prescribe Pepcid AC - is there anything else I can give her that might neutralise acid?

btw - Gillian, if Sams meds aren't covered on insurance, it might be worth asking about Benazecare as it is 1/2 the price of Fortekor - having said thet, with that kind of dose, you are talking about 1/4 tablet an they are less than 1/2 the size of Fortekor to begin with

Yes, I keep meaning to look into Benazecare. I only just brought some more Fortekor for Sam too!

Isnt Slippery Elm supposed to be good for stomach acid? have you tried Willow with that?

I started her on 1/2 dose last night but just phoned the vet and they advised the same. They said if she is still like it after xmas to bring her in. I am aware the options are limited. Sam only has a half of a 2.5mg fortekor. He was started on the full 2.5 mg dose initially over a year ago and I found he was lethargic, so my vet suggested just doing half dose and he's been fine on that dose ever since.

Willow and her Benazedril dose.

For the last 3 weeks or so, she has been getting her pill regularly since I learned to scruff her. The thing is she is zombied out all the time. She is like a different cat. In some ways it is good because she isn't getting into scraps with the others by making aggressive noises at them. She is sleeping a lot and just seems to have no energy. She had her B12 and Laurabolin last week but hasn't perked up. We have been wondering if her dose of Benazecare (same as Fortekor) is too high. They say to give cats between 2.5 & 5kg a 2.5mg dose. I have been googling and the recommended dose is between 0.25 and 0.5mg/kg - so it seems that vets always go for the higher dose. I will speak to the vet but I want to try her on the lower end to see if it livens her up a bit but making sure she is still getting the benefit. I gave her just over 1/4 tablet tonight rather than 1/2 to see if she is livelier in the morning.
