Mentioned this earlier....can't use dog pads or anything like that due to Darwin thinking they're toys and shredding them. (After dragging them from under the trays.

) Des, it's lino underneath, but it isn't fitted amazingly well.

I used adult dog pads under the trays. Something that occurs and that isn't difficult or intrusive is to give Mog either kaminox liquid (it's a dropper) or extra potassium like Tumil K in her food. It won't help with old age but will tremendously with strength in the back legs, head held up etc. Most oldies need extra.

Carpet protector under trays is also a good idea, makes for easier cleaning, all my trays have some under it!!

Try not to worry too much - she has obviously decided to grow old gracefully.

Beaivs stopped playing with toys years ago , and he's only 11!

I wouldnt be worried Js cos its sad that she is getting old but it happens to all of us

AS long as she is happy and enjoying her retirement then I am sure she will be with you for quite a while.

<aybe young Darwin has brought it home to her and that she is best just being a granny to him

I have to admit to being a little worried. The old girl has started to really show her age in the last few days moreso than before. She's wobbly on her legs and her meow comes out in a funny little croak. She's eating, toileting and enjoying fuss as usual but seems a bit more "resigned" to being old than she was previously. She stopped playing a little while ago, which really saddened me because she used to go mad for the Panic Mouse.

Another idea is to use a towel or absorbent bath mat outside the tray - the cat equivalent of terry nappies v pampers

A good find for a cat that isn't stubborn....yes. Mog showed her disdain at my pandering to her age by jumping on the futon without using them and glowering at me. Gotta love that cattitude!

Mog misses the litter tray in some very odd ways. Found some of these in a local charity shop today, so picked them up for her and put them next to the futon so she can save her legs.....

That's what Alice does and she is also wobbly. If I am around I say "In a bit!"

- she usually obliges and does a 180 - it is cute to see her face sticking out the entrance

Unfortunately, Darwin thinks puppy pads are for ripping up.

She is a grand old age yes, MM. My partner jokingly refers to her as "Mumra."

Third vote for puppy pads, i use them under my trays as sometimes the boys are so keen to carry on their activities they gradually stand up whilst still peeing

muscles do get weaker with age, not sure if acupuncture would help in her case?

Some of our oldies have done this on and off and poo too, we've not found a solution yet JS other than pop 'em in proper if we see them and keep easy clean mats underneath

Aw bless her. I suppose the peeing over the side of the tray is part of the same problem as the wobbly legs, she's probably no longer agile enough to do the endless turning they seem to do before 'performing'. Either that or she doesn't feel the urge as early as she used to do (or takes longer to respond to it) so hasn't the time to do the manoeuvering. Korky was the same. I didn't need to watch him walk to know when his legs were bad, I just had to look at the tray (or rather the floor surrounding it

). As far as the wobbly legs go it might be worth a vet visit. Just because she's old doesn't mean she can't be treated. When Korky's back legs started giving him problems earlier this year the vet diagnosed arthritis of the spine. Of course he couldn't have NSAIDs because of his renal problems but the homeopathic drops we got helped a lot - well something did, I'm assuming it was the drops.

my mum's cat used to pee over the edge of her tray and I put loads of cheap absorbent cloths round it which could be exchanged and rinsed through easily enough

Is there anything I can do to help her? She's 20 next year so I suppose I should expect things like this to start happening....she's started putting her bum the wrong way in the litter tray too, meaning her pee goes over the edge and I have to mop it up.
