Toms are extremely wary when they have been out a long time, neutering does a great job at bringing them round. He will have a large territory to patrol hence him not staying long.
Have you a rescue near who can lend you a trap to catch him with? It isnt instant but as his hormones drop off he will hopefully lose his big outdoor urges, not all do tho!

We had a similar visitor - although very friendly (usually) he never tried to come into the house.  I put a paper collar on him but never heard anything, we took him for neutering etc and he was a lovely friendly cat and we just had a feeling he belonged to someone.  We put another paper collar on him and got a call, he was living (very close by) with an elderly lady and her son mainly in their greenhouse but very happy.  He has rarely visited since being neutered but I still keep in touch.  Good luck with your waif

He isnt neuted, hence why we have been trying to get hold of him, but with no luck.  He is a very large cat!  He used to spray in home, but since I started to feed him, this has stopped. As I say he looks well fed (3 meals a day from me!!).  I will continue to try to befriend him and get him to the vets, and offer shelter.

As long as he is neutered and you feed him and offer shelter, he has somewhere to go if the weather gets really bad but its really his choice I think

If he is happy , the only thing I would suggest is get him to a vet  , make sure he is neutered and let him live his hobo lifestyle!

Hi, I used to come and use this site often, (I joined when I needed help/advise over my beloved cat, who was in a RTA), I met so many nice people, and received advise and help.
then I moved house, and became a DIY freak!!! (no time to do anything else!)
Well, at last I've decided its time for me to come and see whats been going on..I still recognise a few names!!

We have a stray cat locally, I know he is stray, and we have been trying to entice him in all summer, now he comes in to my hose, via the cat flap at least 3 times a day, for food. I feed him, but thats all he will do, feed and he goes, he looks well, healthy, but he will not come to us.  Ive even put a blanket down for him, but its not used.  My cat ziggy "acepts" him to a point.

He has been out for a year, and we would take him in, we have tried everything, He seems happy, he is well fed!! Anything else you think I can do??
