Gillian we needed you earlier over on MSE Pets board: someone wanted to know if they could feed their cat sardines in sunflower oil long term! To give her credit she did ask. The discussion wandered onto raw (Food4Cats was linked to), our resident vet then declared we should feed cat food ... Not sure what he'd make of feeding mice and chicks, most unnatural. :evillaugh:

I don't think I dare join in over there LOL! although I'm interested to know what responses the vet gets!  :evillaugh:

Thanks Mark, I didn't know that about the chicks. We feed large mice not the pinkies so I'm guessing they are balanced as they are adults.

Yes the adult mice are a perfectly balanced meal  :evillaugh:

Chicks are fine - they wouldnt be balanced if thats all you were feeding, but as part of a raw diet they are ok. Mark, what would you do with all the 'leftover' chicks then? - the chicks for pet/bird of prey feeding are the male chicks that can't be used in the egg laying industry.

Thanks for the link, I think it will make him very happy  ;D Just found somewhere that will post frozen mice and chicks to me at a reasonable cost as well so I'll see if he likes those as much as the girls used to!

Oh yuck,  I couldnt stand having them in my freezer,   my lot bring in so many mice but they rarely eat them,  oh and the chicks is just too sad  :(

Be careful with pinkies and chicks as they don't have the correct phosphorus/calcium ratio due to bones being undeveloped. (and it is sad   :shy: )

DO NOT BREED OR BUY WHILE SHELTER ANIMALS DIE

I believe I am not interested to know whether Vivisection produces results that are profitable to the human race or doesn't. To know that the results are profitable to the race would not remove my hostility to it.  Mark Twain

I used to have a cat called Pinball who was a lovely boy but unless he was at the vets or a show he was very nervous and would run away from you a lot of the time and when it came to food would not really touch anything but dry food and you could stick your hand in his bowl whilst he ate and he didn't care.

Then along came DA BIRD and I now have a different cat!

He is being much friendlier at home, is whinging all the time about dry food and gobbling down wet food like he's never been fed and even eating raw food! The hilarious bit is if he's got a chicken wing he'll run off to the corner with it and if you go too close he growls really loudly at you to get you to back away from his food

I don't know who this Pinball impersonator is but he does make me giggle!  :evillaugh: :evillaugh:

Just trying to find the link someone (Gillian?) posted a while ago with a raw trial pack on it as I'm going to order it for the wild young man  ;D
