We have 3 German shepherd dogs, and the cats drink from their bowl too. We used to have a real problem with wet floors, apart from the mess, and slip hazard, but it did no harm to the Amtico thankfully. But in September I purchased one of these:-

thinking it would may stop the dogs dribbling water all over the floor for some distance from where it sits. It has made a big difference, we have the biggest one, still could do with one even bigger for daily use though (but bearing in mind they are meant as travel bowls) mustn't grumble. I have considered getting another one to put along side, as it is the cooler weather now, and in the summer they will obviously drink more. Definitely one of the best things I have purchased this year.

You should see the antic's in this house, I have cats that paw the water and lick it off them, ones who look in the bowl and do funny things as if trying to fish something out (but their paws are outside the bowls!) some scrape the surface before drinking....Oh the odd bunch!

There must be a reason the bowl is getting dragged .... I read somewhere some cats don't like to drink near their food bowls but i don't actually know if that is true.

I suppose it would make sense as in the wild they'd not want to leave a carcass (if there was anything remaining) to contaminate the stream they use for drinking.

I just use 12 inch metal dog bowls everywhere. They only go walkies when nearly empty. Would love no know how to stop mousies from going swimming

Riley used to the same and someone on here suggested this feeding mat thingy, the bowl fits over a ring so can't be dragged away or tipped over. He does still fiddle with it but all he succeeds in doing is spilling a few splashes of water onto the tray itslef which contains the mess.

This is not the exact one but very similar

Dave is a bit of a beggar for this too. I found that moving it away from his food reduced the amount of dragging around he did but neither of them ever really drank from it. I have now given up entirely on the water bowl and they have a glass next to the sink which he will still stick a paw in but he's only knocked it over once and they both actually drink from it as opposed to play with it!

We have small metal water bowls and the dog's large metal one, we put the dogs one in his food dish and this stabilises it brilliantly!

Toby dragged water bowls across the floor, so I used an "L" bracket and a plastic bowl. I put a small hole in the lip of the bowl and a flat ended screw in through the "L" bracket and into the bowl. The other part of the bracket I attached to the skirting board. It didn't look as bad as it sounds, honestly.

We already have a fountain which is on all day, do we really need a water bowl too?? Hubby thinks not but I've always said we do (especially in the summer), but this is really starting to ruin our floors.

Jess doesn't drink from either he gets water on his wet food to make sure he has fluids in him. Milo does seem to prefer the fountain.

Janeyk thats actually a good idea.

I honestly don't know how he gets it over the lip of the mat as there are 2 mats on top of each other as well to make it stronger. We used to use a water bowl like the food bowl in the picture and he did it with that too.

This is what I have a deep heavy dish and plate underneath, Pepper drags it across the room too. Our Smokey also used to do this and getting a water fountain stopped it but it broke and never replaced it. Sorry the photos small, not on my original puter atm but you get the picture

Milo's able to pull that off the rubber mat? That is one strong cat. I would suggest maybe a different bowl but have no idea which type though. Sadly you know that as soon as water seeps into those boards, you're going to have a problem.

Milo keeps dragging the water bowl off the mat.

Yesterday I opened the front door and discovered it on the door mat, luckily the door mat had soaked up most of the water, but you can see in the other picture how far his dragged it

This is actually quite a heavy bowl as well.

But his ruining our wooden flooring as the water is soaking into it during the day
