Some sort of auto-immune problem I think, the vet said he's got a very low red blood count which is probably caused by his immune system attacking his blood.

I would hold off on the insurance I think until you know what you are going to do

I would agree that Axa are very good, but unfortunately you won't get this covered under any new insurance policy, as others have already stated, that you can't claim in the first 14 days, and as your vet has diagnosed already, it will be classed as a pre-existing condition

I hope you manage to get a payment plan sorted out with your vets

AXA is a good insurance but it wont cover this as the others have said

Definately wont get cover for this condition

i hope he will be ok, it can be expensive finding out the cause of anemia so please dont delay talking to the vets about a payment plan, if you can offer a reasonable down payment it may help their decision, good luck

They wouldn't insure against this illness as the vet has already assessed the cat to be suffering from the illness. And yes there is a 14 day "cooling off" period where they wouldn't cover you for.

Its would be classed as a pre-existing illness, which they dont cover for

ok thanks everyone. hopefully we'll be able to do a payment plan. The vet didn't say how much it would be likely to cost so have no idea if we can afford it or not. I feel so silly for not getting insurance sooner.

Can anyone recomend an insurer so I can get him insured anyway?

I think everyone is right, there usually is a 14 day exclusion.

Can your vets not offer a payment plan or some sort?

I believe you are right Mojo. First 14 days covers accidents but not illness for most if not all policies.

Naboo, I'm so sorry but I don't think you can get insurance that will cover him in time.

oh no, I just can't afford it

We've only had him 6 months & have just never got around to getting the insurance.

I think you might struggle finding an insurance company that will cover the cost as you're looking for cover immediately after the diagnosis. I could be wrong and hope I am. Sorry I can't be more help; hopefully someone with a little more information will read this soon.

My poor cat has been to the vets yesterday, just had a phone call to say he's severely anemic & will need treatment, possibly a blood transfusion & injections.

I haven't got insurance yet, but need to sort it out before he goes back to the vets this afternoon.

Can anyone recomend an affordable pet insurance company that will cover this?

Also if anyone has any experience of anemia any advice would be much appreciated, vet didn't give too many details, just said it was life threatening & his immune system was attacking his red blood cells, didn't say how successful the treatment was likely to be.
