The fact that he would be on his own might steer me towards a cattery although, if more than one cat, would always prefer cats to stay home and someone call in.  I would however also consider the offer made by his mom's owners (esp as he loves company) and see what arrangements they would make in case of any conflict between the cats.

Have you a holiday arranged yet?  Don't leave it too late to look for and book a decent cattery esp if any holiday is at a popular time.

If it's just overnight or for a weekend then my in laws come over as often as we need them to.  If it's for longer then we use a local FAB approved cattery which is excellent.  I was apprehensive the first time, expecting a call every day to say there was an issue, but am much more relaxed about the next time and Samson seemed to have settled there quite well when we went to collect him.

Hes indoor isnt he? If so you dont have the problem that i think is a big one with pet sitters and that is leaving them 24/7 access with no one there, many go missing when their humans are away  :(

I have a sitter too, she is brilliant and I feel very lucky that we've found someone who we all like and trust.
I wouldn't use a cattery as my boys are mostly indoor and I think they would find it too unsettling.

I'm not a fan of catteries. Some spend time with the cats but others just feed & water I'm sure. I think it would be better done at home. I know Sharn who runs our local one and Itrust her totally but I just couldn' stand the idea of leaving mine there. Here they have all their familiar stuff around them. I think we will shell out for a proper cat sitter when we finally get round to going away but it will probably cost as much as the holiday  :evillaugh:
DO NOT BREED OR BUY WHILE SHELTER ANIMALS DIE

I believe I am not interested to know whether Vivisection produces results that are profitable to the human race or doesn't. To know that the results are profitable to the race would not remove my hostility to it.  Mark Twain

You are totally right, the cats wont remember who he is and there could be a problem
I would use a F.A.B approved cattery

When we got Rajah in August, his mum's owners said that when we go on holiday, we would be very welcome to leave Rajah with them.  This all sounded very nice at the time, but with the passing of time, it has occurred to me that Rajah may be welcomed by the humans but maybe not so much by their cats, all be they Rajah's mum and uncle.  I am also not terribly keen to leave him at home alone and have someone pop in to feed and water him.  He is very close to us and loves our company.  Only very occasionally is he left alone for any length of time.  What do you do when you go away?  Do you have a catsitter or take your babies to a cattery?  We go abroad for between 1 and 3 weeks once annually.
