The Cinnamon Trust will have, but a lot of theirs are in lifelong foster homes. Would be worth ringing to see if they have people in your area.
Please spay your cat

DO NOT BREED OR BUY WHILE SHELTER ANIMALS DIE

I believe I am not interested to know whether Vivisection produces results that are profitable to the human race or doesn't. To know that the results are profitable to the race would not remove my hostility to it.  Mark Twain

Where abouts are you in the north?

We're based in Leeds and have cats in that might be suitable. Unfortunately the oldest tom (12) who really desperately needs a new home, doesn't like other cats! Our elderly female (12)  is the same, but we do have Jimbo in who is around 10 and was found in a desperate state. He has settled well and is such a loving boy. He eats out of your hand is we'd love to find him a new home. There's footage on our website of him at http://adel.cats.org.uk

We also have Misty coming into the branch (he's just at the vets at the moment, but will be avaliable for adoption in a week or so). He's around 9 years old and is tabby and white. Again i'd need to find out his personality, but if you're interested email me homeacat@gmail.com

It's funny that i'm talking about 9/10 year old cats as old, as they still have so much life left in them!!!

Hope to hear from you soon!

Jen

PS: We might not to be re-home some of the cats if you live very far away and they have a history of not travelling well.

Good luck with finding a new older cat to joint your family.

I'm not sure what counts as north east england but I'm sure there are a few more rescues you can contact.

Some will adopt out of their normal areas as well.

What a shame you are not closer to us, I have a 15yo female looking for a home, and we do have a black tom that was supposed to be about 5, but we suspect is older.

Have you had a look on cat chat? They have a section for oldies looking for a home and usually have a lot on there. There is always oldies who come up here for re-homimg too!

I know how you feel - I am adopting two semi-seniors this weekend - aged 11 so not too old but still were being overlooked!!

Good luck with the search and update us all!  ;D

wanting to adopt an elderly cat (Uknown Outcome)
« Reply #1 on: February 20, 2008, 12:38:31 PM »
hi all

i didnt realise how difficult it would be to find an elderly cat to adopt.  i have three cats now 1 aged 4 and two siamese age 2, i recently lost my old boy and miss having an old man about the house. i have put a lot of thought into this and decided i would rather give an elderly cat a couple of years of happiness, rather than adopt a younger cat, as the oldies always get over looked.

i have contacted a few local animal charities, but amazingly enough nobody seems to have elderlys, one rescue told me they dont even take them in as they need cats they can get in and out quickly  i thought they might take my details incase they get a call about an old cat but was told no sorry we dont do that!!

i live in the north east of england and want an old tom, not bothered about colour, but must be ok to live with other cats.  my cats are house cats but do have access to their own cat run with tree trunks etc to climb about on.
if anybody can help or has any ideas  it would be greatly appreciated.

 :thanks:

carol
