The Fickle Paw of FateFor anyone who remembers my article a few years ago, about living with an FIV+ cat, I am very sad to let you know that our darling boy Max had to be put to sleep in July. He’d been suffering with kidney disease for a year and a half and whilst he had been doing really well on his medication and special renal diet, in the last 2 weeks of his life he went downhill incredibly quickly, and we made the decision to let him go peacefully as we could not bear the thought of him being in pain and being unhappy.
We had 9 amazing years together, and I feel honoured that he chose me all those years ago, and of course he taught me everything I know about being an adoring cat slave!
Although there was no doubt in our minds that we had done the right thing by our boy, the feeling of loss was simply unbearable. The house also felt so empty, and we started to consider the possibility of adopting another furry friend at some point in the future.
Well, I think fate may have been at work, as we found out that Heather had just taken in a little black and white boy called Patch, aged about 2, who had tested positive for FIV. This sadly meant the family who found him as a stray were unable to keep him, due to having 2 other cats already.
We agreed to meet Patch as soon as the lab results were confirmed, and he was such a little darling, that we could not resist, and made the decision to adopt him there and then.
He came to live with us on 13th August, and whilst he’s been a little nervous, he’s setting in quickly, and likes nothing better to give you a big headbutt, then give you a little lick to say hello!
Oh, and his name is now Poot, aka Mr P! We think he looks like a Poot!
I honestly do believe that our departed boy Max had a huge paw in this somewhere….it seems too much of a coincidence that we learned about Poot so soon after losing him …. In fact I think he drew the map for us to find each other.
He’ll never replace Max, and we wouldn’t want him to as they are all so different, but I definitely think this was meant to be
