Tee hee, here's my chance to say all those UK celebs that people have recommended I contact to sign our ban declawing petition might sign the firework one, go to it girl!  I'll put the link to this petition onthe three anti-declawing groups I'm admin of, the UK members will surely sign.

Signed today.  I think fireworks should be for use in organised displays on 5th November only.  I also think bangers should be banned completely.
Hope the cynics will see sense.

Only just seen this myself, and most definitely signed.

I am not a member of the "ban everything brigade" - far from it; but banning fireworks
from being in possession of the general public is definietly a good thing.

Again, lovely piccies.

Next doors black Lab has a nasty scar on his shoulder and a white patch of hair on his tail, he was so scared of the loud bangs the year before last that he hid behind the telly against the radiator pipes. The Vet said that his pain shut down because he was concentrating so hard on the noises that he didn't feel himself burning.

welcome back :welcome: and no apology is needed we both went a bit daft :)

lovely picture too

Thanks Horza. I guess we all have our moments! The pic is of my two babies, Star and Tabitha cuddled up on 'their' sofa lol. They are not so far off being a year old now, but I won't be letting them out. Star is hellbent on going out (and he has had his op too but he still yowls at the front door) but Tabitha isn't bothered. He has escaped a few times and always goes and lies in the mud. I just couldn't bear losing another cat to the road but at the same time, I feel guilty because Star especially has a yearning for the great outdoors and I have always let my cats have their freedom, but end up losing them because of it. We took Star to the cemetery on a lead a while ago and he was like a kid at Christmas! He is too fat for the harness now so we will have to get a bigger one! Here is a pic of the little monkey.

I don't know why you are so aggressive? We all have our opinions and state them. I, too, am a Newbie. I loathe what fireworks do, living in a place where we get them non-stop, pretty much  from October to March, with odd 'Occasions' thoughout the year. At the sametime, I love fireworks in properly organised displays. People are warned weeks in advance to keep pets in, I agree that it affects the wildlife, but if it is only for a couple of weeks a year?

Wow is this thread still active? I forgot about purrs. Looking back I really did make a nasty post there. Apologies Horza. I was in a bad place then. Have medication now though lol. It would seem my psychiatrist thinks I am bi-polar. Every psychiatrist thinks their patients are bi-polar these days, of course that does not excuse what I said. Don't worry, if I hurt your feelings I will have to suffer the karmic repercussions of my actions when this current life is over. I am not a nasty person, honest, but I do tend to lose control of my temper (as I explained to you Jude in the message about the poor innocent fan I killed). Anyways, I got another cat (Star the wallpaper eater) not just for me but also for company for my little girl, Tabitha, and I although still miss my little ginger trumpet face a lot, I am OK about it I guess. I follow spiritualism now and realise that Butch died for a reason. I am hoping he has been promoted to human being on his next life if such a thing is possible, he deserves it because he was an amazing, intuitive little cat. Having said that, maybe a cats life is better! And as for the fireworks thing, I am truly not bothered if they ban them or not. If they did, people would still manage to get hold of them and it might make things even more dangerous when people buy them from 'the black market' because let's face it, people buy and die from illegal drugs all the time.Just because something is techincally banned, it won't stop people doing/using whatever it is. I do wish people wouldn't light bangers at 2:00am though when folk are trying to get to sleep, especially miserable grumpy old battleaxes like me.

Tis a little bit on the cheap side, a bit too economy but it might just have to do. Although my linky does have less concrete.

After consulting Molly, she's decided she would love you to have this one completely free of course  ....

Ahh, but Horza pets, fairground rides and bird watching don't result in quivering wrecks. OK well some people might turn into Quivering wrecks, but there's always therapy for those folks!!!!

Firework induced quivering wrecks aka wildlife and peoples pets are something that won't get cured in most cases.  :P for you trying to be smart, I'm not budging until my poor, poor, poor, innocent, youthful poopy doesn't have to endure nightly terrors. The worst part is one loud bang can take hours for her to settle.

so you ban fireworks because you feel it serves no use and/or are pointless, but then someone else comes along and bans pets/fairground rides/bird watching/???? because they provide no use and/or are pointless, its a slippery slope :(

well I don't agree with many things that get banned but fireworks do so much damage mentally and physically yet serve no real purpose. If it's fancy lights in the sky people want there are other options.

Even the USA, the biggest lover of all things destructive have very restricted sales of them.

Well I'm already on the outskirts of town .. Miles of countryside one side, industrial estate with no houses anotherside and acres of park on another there just happens to be other houses here too LOL. 99% of the time it's perfectly peaceful, without fireworks it would be 99.9% peaceful so nope not gonna move.

Judecat it's more than a few weeks a year. From November they go on through the New Year. It's all very well saying to keep pets in but the noise travels through air and walls so any pet can be terrified in their own homes. My own dog had to be medicated last year unfortunately even that had little effect. She won't eat, she's terrified of going in the garden so therefore won't relieve herself after dark. The following day any slight bang from outsides sets her off into a trembling, hyperventilating wreck. There is no way to get away from it short of having an outright ban on these hideous explosives. I'm fed up of seeing my dog getting worse each year for the sake of other people. I'm terrified that one day something really bad is going to happen to her because of the awful state she ends up in.

Organized events would no doubt lead to bigger louder and longer bangs. Since I'm near to somewhere that would have these I'm firmly against organised displays too. Anything to to give my poor baby a better life ( and she's not even 4 years old :( ).

I don't think I will if you don't like my opinion then you know where you can go, I do have a child and yes I do worry about such things, but not to the extent of banning things, we have fireworks for years now and it only mindless yobs that cause problems so all the decent people have to do without I don't think so.

I have been here for a long time and you just turn up making your mouth go, its you that needs to go elsewhere

I knew the 'I have been on here for years' thing would crop up. Just because you have made 3 billion posts does not give you any more right than I to post or say things or challenge a reply.  I actually have better things to do with my time (like caring for my cat and cleaning the toilet) instead of sitting at some screen typing messages to people I will never meet. I just thought it would be nice to chat to other like minded people - what a joke that turned out to be. It is for that reason I have come to the conclusion that a forum is waste of time and I shouldn't have wasted mine joining one because I will just get treated like some primary school child. No, I haven't been posting for years but I object to being treated like some sixteen year old on their first day at work. You will be sending me for the 'long stand' at this rate, or how about a bucket of tartan paint?  There are a few other people on here that agree with me and think fireworks should be banned, so why quote me? Oh yes, because I am a NEWBIE. I bet you wouldn't dare go against a 'five gold stars' member would you?  How dare a newbie 'make her mouth go'? Shock horror for me posting a reply you didn't like.  Pick on somebody else! And yes, I do know where I can go.  A million miles away from petty this forum and its narrow minded people with their 'I have been here longer than you' attitude.  Did they give you a prefects badge? Do you polish it? Happy posting - again and again and again and again because you don't seem to have much else to do.

I don't know why you are so aggressive? We all have our opinions and state them. I, too, am a Newbie. I've gladly signed this, one of our cats who sadly has now passed on, was injured by an airgun when she was young, ever after that whenever there was a bang she would be terrified and scuttle under the bed.  Where we live the fireworks start in September and go through to January so those months were misery for her.  Organised displays are fine (except for the outdoor animals they scare) but some people have spolied it for the rest of the general public and I really think there should be strict controls.
