the other solution re the crate is to support the tray on a couple of lengths of wood to raise the height above the long thin bits!

Of course....eeep why did I not think of that. It's only about 4" max that the tray needs to be raised and I have oodles of things to use for that (mainly kitchen wall units that I bought 3 years ago and erm... are still waiting to be put up lol!!)

Doh!! Thank you!!!!  :Luv2: :thanks:

Thanks Liz - extreme cat owning lol!!  ;D

If Kimbie ever comes home (been AWOL 36 hours) I'll put the kitten in my bedroom and let Kimmie have the house. He was lovely and chilled out the other night after woofting up the Feliway. He even let my OH groom him and purred for him. He spent the nightly happily with Socksy (the kitten was confined to the bedroom with me).

I'm going for a wander in a bit to see if I can lure him in, glad it's warm.

Was thinking of just getting some mesh for the crate - it's only the bottom he can get out of, little sausage.

I'm going to ask the vet about Zylkene...I did read they could have Diazepam but I imagine Kim would just be comatose then?!!

Although early days I would isolate the kitten in the room and let Kimba have his house back - we have just introduced 2 feral kittens aged 14 weeks after 2 weeks in isolation - well the guest bedroom ensuite which has a glass door so our mob could see them and not touch - I have some large boys and some nasty females - none of them are maternal in any way shape or form!

T|urbo and Jet are now out and running with my house cats only through the day and supervised at night when all our mob mix - we have indoor only - 18 of them mainly ferals with attitude and some older ferals who have been with us for a year 0- the rest of teh Clan are indoor/outdoor but all are in at night so its a bit chaotic but the hunters in my mob bring hoem bigger rabbits than the kittens -

The dogs are being introduced to Jazz is 15 and I'm sure they think she is a cat but she is a JRT and sleeps with 8 ferals in the catroom at night and 2 border collies aged 2 and 1 who love cats to the point of sharing their crates with them

You could get a smaller crate so Obi can't do the bars we have kitten pens as well and noone has got out through the bars!

I have a majority of ferals and we have introduced 2 - Indie and Sammy as well as the kittens in the last month

We have Feliway on the house side and also use Zylkene a natural tablet from the vet as some of the newer ferals are still on this just to calm them down a tad as leaping of the wardrobes in our bedroom at 2am was causing injury to parents and about 12 pi**ed of cats who sleep with us!

Thank you!

Reading the linky in a sec.

I'll try and record some of Socks' and Obi's interaction vs Kimba's and Obi's interaction. I leave Socks to it with the head batting and playing fighting, he's a good Mummy  ;D

Thanks for the reassurance

I Have only ever seperated one cat and that's cos he was feral and needed to get used to people/living inside etc.... My cats vary (15 of them!  :innocent:) Some play straight away and other's are more laid back...The hissing, growling and swiping are normal to learn the kitten of his place!  ;)

I honestly think it is still early days.... but Im sure with your protective eye keeping a look out all will be fine in time!

Just found the linky!

Hi Foley,

I have always been extremely lucky and had no problems introducing new cats (I have got 4 Bengals and 2 moggies) a lot of advice says to separate the new cat and do slow introductions - I am sure that someone will post the link for you.  I never separated any but just kept a close eye incase things got too rough, I am sure that given time Kimba will come round and accept his lovely little brother xxx

New Kitten - Dynamic Disruption
« Reply #1 on: September 08, 2009, 17:11:08 PM »
Hello there,

Have just introduced myself in the newbie area: http://www.purrsinourhearts.co.uk/index.php/topic,27608.0.html

I have 3 males (aged 4 years, 3 years and 13 weeks).

I'm having a lot of difficulty with my 3 year old (Kimba) accepting or just tolerating my kitten Obi. He simply won't tolerate him on any level. Kimba is full of hisses, low growls and swipes. He barely comes in other than to eat and sleep when exhausted. Though I did ground ( :shify:) him for the last 36 hours so I could get him calm enough to check he wasn't actually ill or injured...that was fun...he piddled all over his bed to thank me (ignoring his litter).

Could anyone give me some guidance please on easing the introduction between these two? I've got the Feliway plugged in (it took ages to arrive, should have just bought it from my vets). I have a large Savic Cage set up (it was for Obi but he can get out of it :P) and a spare room which I have created space for Kimmie to snooze and eat in away from his little aggressor. Not even sure if the cage is useful or not (bought it for Kim when he was injured).

Piccy with Obi in it until he sneaked out...the little monster!  :naughty::

Obi is cat crazy!! He wants to copy his big brothers and play with them 24/7. He's absolutely fearless and is never deterred by a bat on the head or a quick swipe from Kimba...

I know some cats will just not get along, but as it's early days, what can I do to help my furbaby Kimba feel happier? He is the alpha male if that makes a difference.

Any advice would be fantastic. I will of course  be reading the guides, though I am a fan of advice from people who have been there, done it etc

If any further info is required, I'm happy to answer all Qs in the name of restoring harmony!

This is the 3rd time I've intro'd cats, and I'm epically failing this time. Help!!! :'(

Kind regards

Foley
