As it happens I just had a cuppa with Pudding. I think she set up the Recycling thing over the phone. Even so, perhaps there's a 'Contact Us' link?  To be honest I've never looked. We left at that stuff to Pudding.  I also think that other recycling companies run schemes for charities. 

She did say she had a small battle with Nectar as they wanted her to support THEIR favourite charities and not set up one for us. Eventually she convinced them to print Cats Protection on the card... Pudding's knack is being a tough person to get rid of or ignore. 

If you get stuck, I am sure if you PM her she'll tell you more about how to set it up.

Ok, excuse my dumbness  But the recycling thing, how exactly does that work and raise money for you?

The recycling company give us £1 for every spent ink cartridge sent it. There are some brands of cartridge that they can't accept because they can't be refilled, but most brands of cartridge can be used again. We also get 50% of the current market value of old mobile phones. We just stick our used cartridges and old phones in the envelope and pop them in the post. If supporters run their own offices and get through lots of cartridges, the company provides a box which holds up to 50 items and they will come and collect from the office. I think we've raised something in the region of £300 in the last six/nine months just by this scheme alone.

Just thought I'd pipe and and say that we've had a few really bright and enterprizing fundraisers come up with some great ideas. Our scheme for Recycling Inkjet cartridges and mobile phones is really good. We ask everyone one we come across to accept a pre-paid envelope to post off their empty cartridges. The person that got this up and running for us says that the company only has about another 2/3 CP branches doing this. I'm amazed. It's money out of landfill stuff!  I gather we even have some larger companies/offices that donate their spent cartridges for us. 

The same wonderful person who started the Recyling scheme has also just signed us up for the Nectar points scheme. We get up to 100 cards linked to the CP account so all volunteers can collect for us. The intention is that Nectar vouchers will be used to purchase things for our cats.... food, toys, litter... or maybe even raffle prizes for our fairs and fetes. 

Like everything else... all you need is the people to run and maintain these things.

We did have funding but it dried up fast due to lack of donations and no one seems interested in becoming a fundraiser for the rescue. We have 2 outstanding vet fees, one will be cleared on Tuesday, the other still outstanding by high amount. Although we have made arrangements with the vets to pay a set amount each week (more should donations come in) until we have cleared this one and upped our funds our again we are having to not take in at the moment for a short period. if we do we obviosuly wouldnt be able to help the animals coming in and of course the animals welfare is the upmost

It is very hard for small recsues to find funding and RACR is mostly funded by myself. We have had some lovely donations in the past, and only a few recently in the last 5 months.

We will not close down, but simply just have to stop/close to intaking for a short period until we pull more funding in and concerntrate on the ones we have here. All animals here in rescue so far are covered

Just a safety measure so the rescue doesnt get into trouble financialy.

Oh dear. Thats the problem with rescue, loads of heartache and money problems to boot. Wish I could think of a way it could be made proftable but sadly for small rescues that is seldom the case. It is so easy to overreach as each new case becomes more urgent than the last.
Covcats have been very lucky so far. We monitor our finances so carefully. I think funding has to be put a high priority as the cats. Our soon - to -be retired treasurer was always very careful to make sure we had funds to cover our commitments - a task that I am sure Jasmine will uphold in her new role!
Without the funds in place we would have to close and we have already formulated closure plans should we need them.

RACR is closed until further notice for taking in anymore animals. We are unable to fund anymore and due to lack of donations to the rescue. We have a few outstanding vet bills totaling in all £1,700. We simply cannot fund anymore than we have at pressent.
