all of mine will let us touch them anywhere apart from molly who is a bit feral due to her past life ,
i had a feel and u can feel them and they all feel the same .

I do something similar with Molly, but Tiger isn't good at being touched in general, never mind her belly. As I got both mine as oldies, I dont know when they were spayed.

Although all my females were spayed before their first season so the chances of getting mammary tumors would be very negligible, I would know if there was anything amiss when I groomed them. Also it is not unknown for a tom cat to have a mammary tumor, rare but possible.

This may sound strange, but I have a little game with my cats to check them. I play 'tickly nipples', they love it.
When they are sitting on my lap, I'll rub their tums, paying special attention to their nipples. They go all silly.
Some female cats will only let you rub their underbelly for a certain time before they attack, even if they seem to be enjoying it. So the first time you do this, beware.

Any slight change in them, so best to start now, so you know what normal is for her. And any slight change at all, a vet visit is in order - it is better if you can pick things up before they get to noticeable lumps. It literally is seconds of a job every month, but could make such a difference to her life.

Your welcome, I am so glad that she is going to be spayed now, but please do me a favour and check her breasts on a monthly basis, and any slight change, get her to the vets. Trust me, you dont want to get told that she has mammary cancer but it is too late to do anything about it, and it is one that if caught early enough, can be treated.

The main reason we all think it is odd is that it is making things harder on you and Makosi, having to do so many trips. As I foster, my vets have always waived a pre-op check a day before, and do everything on the day for me. My other reason for being anxious is that while it is only days between, there is that risk she will get out - the amount of times I read on forums that 'my cat can't get out' yet they end up pregnant is unbelievable, it is a daily occurence at times - and I know how easy it is to let cats out accidentally myself. Plus, there is a risk of pyometra the longer she is left unspayed, and this can happen weeks after a heat. Plus, males can produce sperm for anything up to 6 weeks after a neuter, so depending on when he was done, there is a chance that is why he is bothering her. We are only thinking about Makosi's health and wellbeing, however it may come across.

I hate to say it but the first part of your last post reminds me of the term "famous last words"! I hope you're right.

I'm very keen on spaying even though I don't work in cat rescue, because I have been to rescues and seen all the poor cats waiting for homes. It's heartbreaking.

Good luck for next week. I do agree with Lynn that it would make more sense and save you trouble if your vet did the spay on the same day as the examination. That's what mine have always done. Not long ago Polly needed an op to remove a lump. I took her in the morning and left her there. The vet did pre op checks and phoned me with the result of her blood tests (to tell me her kidneys were a tiny bit wonky and ask if I wanted to go ahead, I said yes) and then did the op, phoning me again when Polly came round. (We were concerned about her age.) This saved me the hassle of to-ing and fro-ing to the vet. It makes more sense.
Could you rearrange things with your vet? Take your cat in on tuesday morning and leave her to be examined and spayed. Cancel monday.

Nah she would never get out
all my house is all secure and windows are only opened with a safety lock that just opens about an inch ,

imo shes defo bk to her normal self now
and theres no reason why she cant b spayed next week .

I agree that it's a bit odd the way the vet has arranged it with 2 trips in 2 days when 1 would have done. I know my vets (like most I imagine) do a pre op check up before a neuter or spay to make sure the cat is fit and healthy and that the op can go ahead. It would have made more sense for it all to have been done on one day (whether it be Monday or Tuesday). If she hadn't been well enough then the spay just wouldn't have gone ahead.

I think the reasons most peeps on here are more vociferous in their views re spaying and neutering is that many are involved in rescue and so see firsthand the consequences of not spaying and neutering, whether that be unwanted kittens, illnesses such as mammary cancer or pyometria, RTAs and injuries caused by unneutered cats fighting or roaming in search of a mate etc. I don't doubt your determination to get Makosi neutered but unneutered cats can be very determined in getting out to seek a mate and every day that passes with her unneutered carries with it a risk that she'll get out and get herself up the duff! But I know you're aware of that and are doing everything you can to get her spayed as soon as she'd well enough so fingers crossed it all goes ahead without incident next week.

All I can say to this is I don't know a vet who is not keen to neuter and spay, and I deal with over 50 vet practices all emplpying other vets. Any vet worth his salt knows the implications of of late neuters and spays.

think you misunderstood what we were meaning about taking her next week..A lot of the time pre op checks are done and then supposing the cat is fine they are then spayed on that day. However you are having your pre op check the day before she is booked in to be spayed which just seems like extra hassle for you (to'ing and fro'ing the vets) and stress for puss being carted back and forth.

Theres no problem with the way your vet has organised it as its obvious you are determined to have her spayed next week regardless of which day that is.

The only reason we may seem obsessed with it here is A) we probably have more time to go into the full ifs and buts than what your vet does (time is money after all) and B) when people follow our advice it saves all the upset and worry youve had in the first place

How is she doing anyway ? back to normal etc ?

She didnt get pregnant while she was on season and there was an uneutered male 6mthold kitten here ,( which the vet thought was odd)
so i know she wont get pregnant between now and 2/3days time as the kitten max is neutered now and makosi hasnt come in season since beggining feb (very odd yet the vet dont seem worried at the mo)

It matters because the longer you procrastinate, the greater the risk that she will accidentally get pregnant.

And... I've got to be honest here I felt very anxious about getting my girls spayed but I did it absolutely ASAP because it is the right thing to do.

But i am making sure shes 110 percent fit n well thats why im getting her checked over monday ,

but i can honestly say NO vet i have ever seen in all the time ive had my animals have been obsessed with cats being spayed n neutered for health reasons they have only ever said " if u dont intend to let her have kittens then id advice a spay "
i get the impression that u all think theres some kind of reason i dont want my cat to b spayed !!!!
i have 4 other females who r all spayed and 2 males who r both neutered
and makosi will be spayed too
but imo it doesnt matter if its monday tues weds as long as its done .

for example last time i wormed my cats i had terrible problems with molly taking the tablet
i tried everything i put it in a bit of chicken ,i tried putting it in tuna
and i tried putting it down the bk of her throat and my god the fuss she made !
when i told the vet she said " bring her in here during open surgery and ill pop it down her for u and i wont charge u nothing "
well i went throu 3 tablets and they were all ruined after putting them in food etc so instead of buying another one i just bought that profender stuff and put that on the back of her neck .

Some vets charge for a pre op check and I know if one vet who will try to charge for stitch removal, if challenged they say Oh! sorry our mistake. Of course if I know anyone going to that vet I wouldn't dream of advising them, that would not be right, would it?

they said they only need to give the hospital where they do it 24hrs notice so thats prob why they havent booked a date , so if i go monday and shes fine they will b more than happy to carry out the spay tuesday .

the vet said makosi had a slight temprature today but this could be due to the fact it was so warm in the car and in the clinic and because she is so nervous at the vets ,her heart beat was going crazy

he said see if she carrys on being ok over the weekend or if she goes bk to being quiet and sleeping a lot again as now the antibiotic injection has worn off , i never mentioned about the pyo thing coz i only just seen the post now , he said he is willing to give her another full check over on monday even if she seems ok then book her in to b spayed the next day .

Forever, if she still has a temp today, do quiz the vet about pyometra, as Lynn posted above, a temp is one of the signs. Fingers crossed it is just a coincidence though, and she is fine to be spayed on Mon.
