Oh dear Ruby doob has now got the trots  :( but god bless that baby, she is using the litter tray (which is sparkling clean)  Otherwise seems OK.  She's now locked in her room for the evening with Millie so able to keep an eye on her overnight. Fingers crossed she'll be back to normal soon.

Having just read the links, I think I may have to hang my head in shame and admit to not completely emptying and washing out litter trays every 2 days  :what:  did they really say 2 days?

Neither do I Rosella. ;) You can make a litter tray TOO clean and that sends confusing signals so it's a difficult one to get the balance right on for each individual cat.

It's allowed, indeed encouraged Gill  :)  Ruby says Hi auntie Gill  :cat rub:

Having just read the links, I think I may have to hang my head in shame and admit to not completely emptying and washing out litter trays every 2 days  :what:  did they really say 2 days?  I scoop any number of times religiously every day but gordon bennett;  I daren't say the frequency I thought to be OK but it's obviously OK for Millie as she always uses tray.  We use baby chick crumbs for litter.

I shudda excluded you from replying Gill coz I know you've a soft spot for that sultry furball and you know I hug Millie far too much  ;) .  I do love Ruby very much and she gets as much attention as I think she wants (unlike Millie she isn't very demanding on the cuddle front but has her moments) but I will step it up and see wot happens.  Millie will probably start peeing everywhere  :evillaugh:  The litter is the same litter she's always had.  I use same as Judith used in the rescue.

I noticed it first a few months ago a few feet away from litter tray by front door but assumed that was because Millie had done a poo in nearby tray and I hadn't yet removed it.  All poos now removed immediately detected even by OH during the day  .  I assumed that 3 trays would be OK due to their size and the fact that the big uns hardly ever use them preferring to go outside.  Due to infrequent use of one of the trays though I think I may move it.  Will give some thought to it's relocation.

Just off to read links by Jasmine and JaneyK.  Many thanks all 3 for such quick responses.

I had a problem earlier on in the year with Olive defecating on my bedroom floor - and of course more recently with my foster, Sweep peeing everywhere, so I do sympathise.

For a quick summary , here is a link to info on CC:

(maybe you could email their behaviour expert).

Sorry cant think of anything and reckon a vet visit may be the answer although not for both ........Hmmmmmm does sorta sound beghavioral but wonder why.

Does Ruby think she doesnt get enough attention? or as much as the others...maybe she doesnt like the litter you are using.

6 cats 3 trays, wonder if you neeed more, how long has this been happening?

Inappropriate peeing and now pooing too.....

OK I know this subject has been done to death but, rather than going through all previous threads, can I have a quick summary of likely causes.  The facts...

Ruby is the culprit.  No obvious health probs and no blood in urine.  8 month old kitten in a house with her twin sister and 4 other cats.  All get on except her mom but mom's hardly ever in apart from meals times. A fair bit of chasing goes on esp with Billy but if anything I'd say Ruby was pretty self assured.  Neighbour's cat Butu was telling Ruby off the other day in our back garden but she stood her ground.

There are 3 cat trays, 2 large and one enormous.  The kittens use the trays, the cats hardly ever.  Cats have 24/7 indoor/outdoor access; kittens are allowed out when we are about and locked in overnight.  I'm going to wash and disinfect the trays again tomorrow but I keep them pretty clean and Ruby's sister Millie uses them with no problem.

Looking back, the peeing has been going on for a while but is becoming more frequent.  Peeing used to be on carpet in hallway, now is in bathroom (in bath and now on floor) and 2 poos now too.  Have now wedged bathroom door shut.  Ruby also pees on the lawn which I've never known a cat do before.

Neither kitten appears to drink much water.  They are fed on a mixture of wet and dry food 4 times a day with 4 water bowls dotted about the house.

So, apart from vet visit to rule out probs, any ideas please?
