OMG,  if I got a slow worm that would be the end of my cats ever going out again,  I am absolutely terrified of anything 'snake' like and I would faint on the spot if that was one of my 'presents'   Oh no,  I dont want to go home now in case they have got me a slow worm !!  aghhhhhhhh

OOOH!!  If they do, may I have it  :evillaugh:

We used to have a slowworm as a pet -  we rescued when on holiday in Wales.  A chap was all set to hack its head off with his spade ....  he thought it was a snake :(  S

"Slowie" - who really should have been called "Quickie" lived with us for years....  She came home from out Welsh hoiliday in a big plastic box we used to take picnic stuff out in.  When home, she moved into a virarium.

And a slowworm is a very good way to keep a place slug-free!!

I can't say I'm keen on the thought of them either and luckily I didn't have to meet the one that was caught on Saturday as hubby was sitting outside with his mate at the time and rescued it before it was brought indoors to me in the kitchen.

I was reading about them last night though and they're actually legless llizards.  They like to eat slugs/snails etc which would explain the presence in our garden as we have tons of those!

Since Friday we've had 2 adult frogs, 1 baby frog, a slow worm and a bee!

We keep rescuing the frogs and putting them out the front where Samson isn't allowed to go.  The slow worm was thrown over into next doors garden (I didn't realise they were protected) and unfortunately it was too late for the bee as hubby didn't see it and stepped on it in his big work boots.

We are in full mouse season at my house and with 10 cats you can imagine the amount of 'presents' we get !,   in fairness it is part of the job of cats that live on a farm to catch the vermin but I would have thought they would have much preferred the TechniCal and Whiskas.   The farmer is always really pleased with the cats as before we lived there he had a terrible mouse/rat problem,   not anymore,  just a cat problem

The ferals are always playing with the frogs and I'm always having to rescue them.  Last week I tried to catch one and it nearly jumped down my top  :scared: (they make me go all funny!! euwww - but I still care for them) so I had to monitor it hopping out of the way because as soon as I went indoors Zippy was after it again.l
Please consider the harder to home cats in rescue.

Yep, it's definitely frog season!  The boys are now 2 1/2 and have been going outside for over a year, in the last two days I've had my first ever 'gifts' - live frogs x 3! I wouldn't have said I was frightened of frogs until now, I think like you say it's the unpredictability of their jumps while you're trying to catch them  I tried releasing them into the lavender but the boys just hunted them down again so I had to catch them in a tub and put them out the front instead.

Thank you so much for returning the frogs - I have a frog colony, I love them.

I do too. These seem to be young ones she's bringing in - I have those decking tiles outside and the frogs seem to get under those. I then have to go wandering right up to the top of the garden (nearly 100ft long!)  in pitch dark to put them safely in the long grass. I'm sure they are hopping straight back down the garden again!

put a plastic container over one while I went to get something to slide under it and it started jumping round the lounge with the carton attached - yuk !

LOL! yes it is definitely frog time - I was watching something quite interesting (for once!) on the telly the other night and 3 times Gwynnie came in with a frog, and 3 times I had to leave watching the programe and rescue said frogs (not sure it wasnt the same one she was bringing back in LOL!  :evillaugh: )

Over the last two days I have been brought at least a dozen (lost count) very large moths (some alive, some not) two live frogs which I managed to return to the pond and one poor dead baby bird.    I really am quite frightened of frogs - think it is the sudden leaps - put a plastic container over one while I went to get something to slide under it and it started jumping round the lounge with the carton attached - yuk !
