It does happen that they block again as soon as the catheter comes out, luckily my Ben didnt, although I was warned it was a possibility.

Don't forget stress is a contributing factor in urinary tract blockages, other things to look at are weight, overweight cats can be prone, low activity is another factor and low water intake, so wet food is a must for cats with this condition. I'd also ask your vet about Cystaid which soothes the lining of the bladder (its not prescription and cheaper online than from your vet) and maybe Zylkene if stress is a factor. With Ben it was a combination of stress (impending house move and then the move itself) and feeding dry food.

Nice to hear about the pledge from the charity, hope all goes well for his procedure.

Blocked bladders end up being very expensive things, I was   when I found out Memphis' bill as it was huge.

I do think it's worth them keeping him longer. The recommended time is 2-4 days in with a catheter, I guess this gives them time to fill and flush the bladder to get out as many crystals as possible with the catheter in. With the vast majority out it reduces the blockage risk, then the prescription food dissolves the remaining ones. I think if it were me I'd be complaining to other vets for releasing him too soon and demanding my money back :shify:

Good luck to Monkey and   to you.

hes back at the vets this morning and they have said he is still very blocked so WILL need another op to flush him out, they have said they are going to do xrays and put dye into him to see whats going on, if there are no more crystals then he is just being flushed, however if they find some more then they are going to open him up and scoop them out.

poor chap i feel really really bad for him, we have agreed to this surgery but this really is the last shot we simply cant afford another.  :( it breaks my heart but i cant see any other way, the vets have been great and have said we can pay half now and the rest in a months time. which is really helpful to us. also they are going to try and keep the costs down as much as possible and have said its going to be no more than £350 even if they do open him up.

Lee my OH is writing to Armac vets to complain (hes not one to complain normally) because we feel slightly cheated, we paid all that money for something we feel didnt even slightly work. he was literally blocked whilst leaving the vets. so we shall see where that gets us.
