Mum cat has moved her babies UPDATE she's back need help/advice

Kittens all now in rescue where they will stay for 2 weeks to be socialised.  Mum  Lily booked in for neutering on Monday.  Big sigh of relief, all safe and sound!  Well done to my neighbour Nigel

Latest news is, kittens are all well and happy and safe for the present in my neighbour's garden ie they cannot escape.  Mother cat is responding well to my neighbour and is keen to be stroked and he has picked her up.  So the plan is to catch the babies and the rescue will take them on Tuesday.  My neighbour is going to keep mother cat (now named Lily) and have her neutered.  Hopefully this will be an end to it.  The babies will have the chance of new homes and Lily has a forever home of her own Sigh

She has brought them back this morning and they are all under my neighbour's dilapidated car.  She wont let him touch her and hisses and the kittens appear to be eating normal cat food.  I have suggested he borrows a trap from the local cat rescue and tries to catch her first but whether he will or not is a different matter.  Fingers crossed

Cats living wild do seem to move their litters regularly. It reduces their vulnerability due to too deep a smell becoming associated with a particular location. One around here tends to leave one baby behind each time she moves, which at least means that each baby has a chance at a home, I guess, but it can not be good for them.

That reminds me of a stray cat who had kittens somewhere in the vicinity of our house many years ago.  We'd seen her when she was pregnant but been unsuccessful in getting her trapped.  She then re-appeared having obviously given birth so a neighbour and I put food out for her.  Eventually we found where the kittens where but she moved them within hours and we couldn't find them.  Mum also disappeared.  Several weeks later she turned up at my neighbours with one kitten in tow and they went into the kitchen (never happened before).  Mum then walked out again and kitten followed so mum picked it up on her mouth and took it back.  This was repeated several times until my neighbour graciously accepted the gift  .

We are hoping against hope that she may have moved herself into the next door's unused outdoor toilet.  The man who lives there has been away in Birmingham for a year and so there is no likelihood of her being disturbed there.  It is relatively safe and she can always pop over the wall for food from Nigel's  We are just worried about the babies being out and about so young in such a busy area.  I will keep you posted if we hear anything.  The neighbours are all keeping watch and hopefully she will be seen and at least fed.

We don't know exactly when they were born either.  The car is an old wreck and was waiting to be disposed of which, of course, has now been put on hold.  We are worried that the kittens are in danger though, there is a very busy road nearby and foxes etc.

It's perfectly normal for a cat to move her litter.That is, after a few days, I don't know when these kittens were born.
But they do it to wipe out traces for any enemy.
Let's hope she puts them in a sheltered place.

YOu may recall I told you about the cat who had had kittens in a dilapidated car in my neighbour's garde?  He has been feeding them and had arranged for a rescue to take them if he could get them as they don't collect.  Well for some reason this morning the cat went for him and has since moved her four (we thought there were three) kittens to we know not where.  We have leafleted the area but there is really little else we can do I think.  My neighbour is going to leave food near where they used to hide out and hopes she will return.
