Yep, on 24/7 - I had it on a timer but my partner noticed the cats were less interested and worried they'd not drink enough so he switched the timer on to full time.

I switch mine off at night but only because I leave all my doors open and I can hear it from the bedroom so it an annoy me at times because it is so quiet.

I don't have one now but the one I did have was on 24/7, our Smokey practically lived by it - in the summer he sometimes slept with his head resting on the ledge, Schui seemed a bit scared of it.
Please consider the harder to home cats in rescue.

I leave it on all the time. My old one was on for about 3 years continuously before I decided to replace it with the platinum which is safer as it has the refill tank. The present one has been on for almost 2 years non-stop except for when it is cleaned. The platinum also has a different motor to the standard one. It is really quiet and uses less energy. The motors aren't supposed to run dry so as long as there is plenty of water, there shouldn't be a problem. I really think it does encourage cats to drink more although Clapton is wary of it and has never been near it  :evillaugh:

DO NOT BREED OR BUY WHILE SHELTER ANIMALS DIE

I believe I am not interested to know whether Vivisection produces results that are profitable to the human race or doesn't. To know that the results are profitable to the race would not remove my hostility to it.  Mark Twain

No I only put mine on at feeding times, and then leave it on for about an hour after. I have awful visions of it catching fire when Im not at home  :scared: and the blooming noise of it

As above really.

We turn ours off at night, the plug gets a little warm and this worries me.

The boys have bowls of water down as well as the fountain.
