Glad they have seen a vet. My vets do that offer with the microchipping too.

We've been to the vets today and they have now been frontlined and had their first doses of panacur, 2 more to go.

The vet gave me a sample of Royal Canin, they have an offer on at the moment when you buy 2 bags you get a free micro-chip which is a bonus.

I prefer Stronghold to Frontline. It also targets earmites. In this area the fleas are getting an immunity to Frontline, which I always used to swear by. I have always used Drontal for worms as it kills all of them including tapeworm. The doseage is according to weight though.

I am so jealous of those kittens. They are gorgeous.

They are cute  :Luv2: :Luv2:
I assumed when you said breeder you were getting pedigrees  :innocent:  no one producing moggies should be allowed to call themselves breeders  :(

When you get to the vets dont accept panacur for worming, this doesnt treat the tapeworm that they are very likely to have from all those fleas  :( milbemax is available for kittens or failing that you could get away with quarter of a drontal, this will bop all wormeys on the head  :evillaugh:
It would also be wise to get a house spray, vet uk sell indorex and acclaim and you could have this by tues as they are super quick  ;D

I agree get them off the go cat  :sick: felix kitten is less rich than whiskas so i prefer this and for dry it depends where you want to buy, supermarket or petstore? Royal canin kitten is always loved :drool;

Royal Canin do a dry kitten food which our 2 love.  Ours are now fed on a mixture of that and Felix kitten pouches. Small meals and frequent. We are now tyring to reduce number of meals from 4 to 3 a day (age 5 1/2 months)

If you are going to change food, best do it slowly in case of tummy upsets.  Shouldn't think GoCat kitten food would be very nutritious tbh

Sorry didn't realise your newbies were that wee from 1st photo.  Love the new photos too.  They are both super but the little girl is really yum  :Luv:

They are a tad young, and I would try and get them on wet kitten food, whiskas is the only one that does a supermeat style one - Felix AGAIL kitten is on offer in Morrisons at the moment. Not sure on dry kitten food, never had to buy it, but I know JWB do make one.

You will be fine with a male and a female - as others have said, try to get them neutered a bit sooner than 6 months and keep an eye on them in case your female goes into heat before you can get them done (you may need to separate them until neutering if that happens).

I too am disgusted that someone would home them riddled with fleas, and too young too  >:(

I can't Believe anyone could re-home kittens with Fleas  >:(  :censored: that is so  :censored: irresponsible  :censored:
Poor wee babies :(
Moonlight, You will have to get them checked out and sorted by a vet asap

A Flea Infestation if well established, is a right  :censored: to get on top of  >:(
You will have to watch out for your Chinchillas as well  :scared:

Although your furbabes are confined to the Kitchen, Fleas are excellent Jumpers and could easily jump onto your
clothing, Hitching a lift, causing them to be dispersed throughout your House into the Carpet  >:(

Here is some info http://www.fleasmart.com/life.htm

Please, PLEASE ! Take them to a vet as soon as you can, I'm Talking from experience here  :'(

Oh BTW, your Furbabes are Gorgeous  :Luv: :Luv2: :Luv: :Luv2: :Luv:

Slightly off topic: as you have Chinchillas, I thought you might like this

You've seen the 118 24/7 add haven't you ?? well before they made the add, this is what they were doing  ;)

They are 8 weeks on Wednesday ( I didn't know until I worked it out today), so probably a bit young to have left home already, there sister had gone during the week  :-:. I'll get my digital scales out when they wake up and weigh them. The lady said that they had been wormed but that they were due again on Monday, I take it that you have to change all the litter 36hrs after worming?

I have been to P@H and got a flea comb and will call the vets in the morning to arrange a check up, I had planned on doing it anyway. Their gums are a good colour, so I don't think the fleas are making them anemic but I agree that they need sorting ASAP.

Thanks for the heads up on the CP, I did speak to the local lady the other day to get some advice about getting kittens, she was very helpful so hopefully she will be able to recommend a vet that will neuter sooner rather than later if mine won't do it.

Can anyone recommend a good kitten food? I know food is down to personal preference but it would be good to have some advice on it. They are on Go Cat kitten food at the moment.

Here are some more pics

Sorry to hear your having such a difficult time. Once they are all sorted they will be worth it though. In terms of neutering, vets should neuter younger in circumstances like yours. If you have problems finding a vet to do it, contact your local Cats protection for advice as they can tell which vets they use and CP standards are to neuter from 16 weeks. (HQ have even talked about from 12 weeks as it's been proven to be perfectly safe) The earlier the better with a M&F

That's terrible that they were rehomed in that condition  :( Fleas are unplesant for them in any case but to have that many they must be tormented by them, a heavy flea infestation can be fatal in young kittens due to anemia caused by blood loss. If they haven't had basic flea treatment then it's very unlikely they've had any other care so you'll need to get them both to the vets ASAP for a quick check up.  The vet will be able to advise what flea/worm treatment is suitable for them.  When they're a bit older it works out much cheaper to order online through one of the links Rosella has posted.

They're both gorgeous and hope they get rid of their unwanted guests and settle in  :Luv2:

Rosella, these kittens will need to see a vet this week, they can't wait the 2 weeks for the insurance period, as if that many fleas were picked off them, they will need worming, and at that age, it will need to be a vet tablet - Milbemax do a kitten tablet for 8 weeks plus, not sure if Panacur will be enough with that amount of fleas. I would do those kittens with the spray rather than a spot on, I can't tell from the pic whether they are big enough.

Frontline spot on seems OK for kittens aged from 8 weeks weighing at least 1kg?  If less than 2kg may need vet to make up a worming powder as I think Milbemax is for above 2kg weight?  Are you going to get pet insurance?  If so may want to try and get it in place before a vet visit.

Bit surprised they were not treated for fleas before you collected them.  I'm afraid there really are no short cuts when it comes to fleas and just coz they are in the kitchen atm doesn't mean that the house may be OK as the blighters could easily be transferred to rest of house by you.  I suggest frontline spot on and spray house asap with either acclaim or indorex. VetUK.co.uk is cheapest place to buy and ordering through a rescue link means 5% goes to rescue

http://www.purrsinourhearts.co.uk/index.php/topic,17501.0.html

Would also recommend they are wormed asap if not already done.  Whilst you can order drontal online they are like horse pills and milbemax is easier to swallow but it's prescription only.

They are of course simply stunning little uns and am very jealous  :Luv: :Luv: :Luv:

That is  disgusting, no one should be homing kittens with fleas, they will need a vet check asap for wormer. How old are they? Frontline spray would probably be the best for them, and I would keep them in the kitchen for a few days to make sure they dont get too far in the house (although bear in mind you can transport fleas).

Well, we ended up getting both. They are so cute and have settled in really well  ;D. The only problem is that they have loads of fleas  :-:, I sat and picked 26 off them this evening, they were very good and purred away while enjoying their massage. Is there any tips for getting rid of them? The kittens are in the kitchen at the moment, so haven't touched our carpets, but I would rather not have to treat the whole house if I don't have to.

Here is a pic of them when we got them home, the ginger and white one is the Tom, you can't see much of the female.

Now we just need names.

I adopted a brother and sister last year, the Rescue wanted them to go together because they really loved each other - and still do

I would say go for the brother and sister - you will not regret it - honest.

I would definitely ring round, and do speak to the vet, my receptionist told me 6 months a couple of years ago, and when I picked her up, the vet said she does do females from 4 months, so I had waited unnecessarily (luckily she was a week off coming into season), I know she does males from 3 months.

Hi &  :welcome: to Purrs.  I would definitely go for two - if it were me I'd go for the brother and sister so as not to split them up.  Vets can neuter/spay earlier than 6 months but many choose not to unless there is a reason such as a situation like yours where you have one of each.  Why not give your normal vet a quick ring  tomorrow and ask whether he would spay/neuter slightly earlier if you have one of each, try to ask the actual vet rather than a receptionist as they often give out the standard 6 months answer.   :1st place: on your new arrivals - whatever sex they may be  :)

What she said  :)  We have 2 girls aged 5 months and Millie came into season (what a palava!) last week.  You are right to think 6 months too late to avoid kittens.  Have heard as young as 4 months, altho not common.

Kitten advice needed
« Reply #1 on: April 23, 2009, 22:59:05 PM »
Hi, I've just introduced myself in the intro section but was hoping some of you could help me with a dilemma.

We are going to pick up our kitten on Saturday, unfortunately we were supposed to have 2 females (I've been told you should always have 2) but the breeder sold the other female, so there is only 1 female and a male available.

So my dilemma is, I certainly don't want to breed (I breed Chinchillas, the rodent not cat, so know about the responsibility that comes with breeding) but I don't want the kitten to be lonely so wanted to get 2. I haven't checked with my vet but when I asked initially they said that they wouldn't neuter/spay under 6 mths. I've done some quick searches and it looks like that's probably to late to avoid kittens. Is there a way round it, apart from keeping them separate, which defeats the object completely? Would I be better getting another female from another litter and introducing them or should I just go for the 1?

Thanks
