Sorry to hear you have lost Poppy
Milo may well shed the virus so definately test him through Glasgow and then again 12 weeks later. As he has been exposed he will show positive but can recover from this  i hope this is the case for the young lad :wish:

  :'( Bad news I'm afraid :'(

We had to take Poppy to the vets in the early hours of this morning. She was quite obviously distressed. She was trying to get up but kept collapsing. She was crying out in a very distressed manner & gasping for breath.

So I took her along to the out of hours vets (Vets Now) where it was decided it was best to put her to sleep. I am happy in the thoughts that we did everything we possibly could for her, but it's just such a terrible thing to see your beloved pets in such distress & it makes you feel so useless as you just don't know what to do to help them  :(

Anyway....she's now in peace ...... R.I.P little Poppy .... Gone but never forgotten  xxx

I dont know how much about the vet explained about the test, but the in-house FeLV test does have a 42% chance of being wrong, and should be followed up wtih the Glasgow test, and retested in 12 weeks time, as cats can shed FeLV. Fingers crossed yours have just come into contact with it and are in teh process of shedding it.
Please spay your cat

Newbie here ... I have two cats with FELV
« Reply #1 on: March 28, 2009, 18:45:08 PM »
Hello to everyone .... I recently found this forum when looking for info about FELV.

We have 2 cats .... Milo (male) and Poppy (female) and they are 8 months old.
We took them on as kittens .... they were just 8 weeks old. We got them booked in at the vets and had all thier injections etc done by the book. Everything was going fine, or so we thought, until recently when Poppy took ill. At first, the vet thought she just had a body infection. All her glands / lymph nodes were swollen. She was given a slow release antibiotic and pain killers that lasted for a week. During that week she didn't seem to get any worse ... but she didn't seem to be getting any better either, and come the weekend, she appeared to be going down hill. So I took her back to the vets on the monday, and it was then that the vet suspected FELV ..... She tested her there and then, and as expected, the test was positive  :(

We also had Milo tested this week, sadly he tested positive too, but he is otherwise fit and well.

Poppy is struggling at the moment .... She's on her 2nd steroid injection and we are just taking it one day at a time to see how things go.
