No that theory doesn't work for Zephyr either .... he is VERY LOUD when he shouts at me and he is VERY LOUD when he's purring .... god I love him  :Luv2:

That theory doesn't work with Oscar, Suzanne - when he talks he TALKS.  I think I just have a weird cat     At the moment I'm typing round him while he tries to chew the buttons off my blouse.

Max is a (bit of a fake methinks) tonkinese and he has a pathetic purr, really soft.  I would settle for a very loud purr and a softer voice  ;D

Perhaps there is a relationship here between purr and general voice  ;D  Mosi is a silent purrer but he can't half shout

Kocka used to have what I called a super-purr mode and Misa also will purr so hard and loud that he gets hiccups. Ducha is also a loud purrer or is that cos he is wrapped round my head in bed  :shify: but Franta hardly ever purrs but when he does its a gentle bass purr and lovely  ;D

I know what you mean about the naughty streak Michelle - Oscar can be a little devil when he gets going.  At the moment it is racing up and down stairs at 1.00 in the morning.  None of us are impressed, especially Sophie who likes an undisturbed nights sleep!

I shall be sending for your new gadget shortly Leigh   Oscar isn't a big cat - solid but not big.  I wish I could do sound so you could hear him - it starts as a loud but reasonably normal purr, but then end with what my OH describes as "sounding like a duck".  Sorry can't do photos at present as my camera is kaput and I can't afford a new one at the moment as we have a holiday coming up and also have to save to go to Chile next year.

My little rainbow baby Jade had the loudest purr ever, it usually sounded like an engine rumbling away, you always knew where she was.  The first time my friends heard her, they didn't realise what the noise was.  Jake, my big boy has no purr whatsoever, and oh I do miss it.

Not sure if it is a Tonk thing to have a loud purr .... or just a Boy thing!  My mum's 2 female tonks never purred that loudly.  However Zephyr my male Aby is SO LOUD compared to his sister.  I'm therefore thinking it's just a boy thing to try and shake the house off it's foundations. LOL.

Those of you who have Tonks - how loud are their purrs.  Oscar's is soooooo loud it is unbelievable.  I can hear him when I am in the bathrom with the door shut and he is on the landing.  I have never heard anything like it.  Our Burmese were never that loud.  As Sophie is one of the "silent purrs" type, it makes his even more noticeable.  Is it jut Osc or are they all the same?
