Funny as i have dinah sibling Lucy she actually does the same she seems to find it comforting. She loves to be near your face for a cuddle  :Luv2: found it a little strange at first as neo doesnt do it as much but hes not from the same litter. Lucy rolls over all the time for a stroke and then likes to lie near your face and purr at night. I tie my hair back to try and stop her bitibg my hair. She can be  :sneaky:though and looks at me sometimes like :innocent:

I wore mine up for years until I got it cut very short, then the cats noticed it and haven't stopped.

It gets cleaned, chewed on and played with.

The worst is when they jump at it and I end up with a cat attached to my back.

So it does happen

I've got a couple that do it.  Lulu does it quite nicely and I am one of those perverse people who love having their hair played with so I quite like it when she decides to give me a groom  BUT Cookie starts and then she has to DIG her claws into you head to get a better grip and no matter how many times you tell her to stop she just keeps DIGGING, and she has some of the sharpest claws I know - one of those kittens who has never really learnt to put her claws away. I feel like I'm having needles stuck into my head

Oh, the  cats Ive had do it!!   :tired:

Not so much now my hair is shorter ....  When I first knew my partner, Kieron, Chloe -cat was fascinated by my hair if it was loose.  She would climb up me and wash it for me.  And I will never forget the hot summer I put it in a plait .... I think she thought it was a special new cat toy and whenever she could was batting it or chewing it.
Gizmo used to sleep on my head and would often settle down to sleep, having given me a bit of a lick first .....  (Chloe isnt the ALL of the reason I had it cut!!!!)

Mr T isnt so bothered but he will have a bat and a lick or chew if he is in a kittenish mood ......

You are not alone!!! :briggin:

Ginny likes chomping on my hair when it's just been washed :innocent: she's have a little chew other times but wet hair seems to be irresistible. :naughty:

My friend's cat used to do this, none of mine have although they have groomed it the odd occasion - I think it is quite common though.  Probably you could distract her or tie your hair up then she doesn't get your hair balls   :naughty:

I have had cats chew my hair as well, usually when I have just been to the hairdressers. Do you use some kind of hair product that could possibly taste scrummy? The other thing is that it could be some kind of pica, just like some cats go mad for wool.

Hair chewing?????!!
« Reply #1 on: February 06, 2009, 08:23:38 AM »
OK so I took over newbie sitting from OH overnight.  I know I moan about OH "on occasion"  :innocent: but I take my hat off to him putting up with them for 5 nights. I now fully understand why some nights he gave up at 3am.  Dinah, Millie Monster and Ruby are all

OK so burrowing under duvet from the top to the bottom to chew feet is probably something kittens just do and chasing each other non stop like a heard of elephants is expected but why on earth does Dinah (mom) insist on chewing my hair (hair quite long)?  I was having to push her away and she would come right back very forcibly   Not a little nibble, I mean chomping.  I thought she might be hungry so fed her but not a bit of it. As soon as she finished brekkie (5am) she was back trying to eat my hair again. She nuzzles into my neck which is sweet but it's only to get at my hair tucked under the back of my head whilst lying down  :naughty:.  This is a new one on me.
