So pleased he's feeling better and sorry for hi-jacking the thread with Korky's woes. Thanks to Gill, Helen and Mitramonday for your comments. I think I had already decided not to vaccinate but was feeling a bit guilty about the decision. You have set my mind at rest

Glad to say that Harry is much better today and was demanding breakfast at 5.0am so all furbabies thought it was time to get up - I will be half asleep by 3pm !

. For Korky's mum - my vet wouldn't do (rainbow)Avalo's boosters as soon as they diagnosed his CRF, but I think Frontline is ok (don't take my word for it though!)

Ask your vet which flea/worm spot ons are systemic, frontline is just stored within the skin whereas as other go round the organs, this is what you would want to avoid if he has crf.

Did you stop dea-flea and de-worm as well? Korky hasn't had any of these treatments since his last bloods either but I don't know whether to start them again when the weather improves and he starts going out more. I've always found that worming in particular can have a detrimental effect on a poorly cat.

She was only ever wormed at her boosters by the vet so when the boosters stopped so did the worming. With regards flea treatment, I didn't treat her as a matter of course like I do with the boys now but only if she had a problem. As far as I remember Frontline isn't absorbed into the bloodstream (some of the other spot-ons are) so is safe for CRF cats.

I think with healthy cats and vaccinations in general, I'd rather my cats were off colour for a few days than died of a disease that could have been prevented by being vaccinated

Thats what I think too. I don't intend him to go into a cattery and he rarely goes out these days so why risk it? Its just that having given annual boosters for so long it somehow feels wrong not to - daft I know.

Aww poor Harry - glad he's feeling a bit better though. I'm wondering whether I should have Korky's boosters done or not. He has CRF and the last time he had bloods done (early December) his numbers weren't good but clinically he is well - and I don't want to do anything that might upset him and tip him over the edge so to speak. He's never had a bad reaction to vaccines but the Data Sheets do say to be given to healthy animals only and a cat with CRF is not healthy however well he may seem to be. Decisions, decisions - I would talk to the vet but I know that he'll say the vaccine is harmless.

The human flu jab is different and I have had one every year for a long time and yes you can get a bit ill but are you allergic to chicken or eggs cos its cultivated on eggs and therefore some peeps cant have it......my sister is one.

yes he can't have the flu jab, they have tried two different versions but both affect him we are waiting for enteritis to come out as a single vaccine

I dont have the leukemia vaccinations Gill so it wasnt that which caused him to be poorly - saying that though I had the flu jab a couple of years ago and I was so ill that I vowed in future I will take my chances with the flu and not have the jab anymore.

Do you mean the flu jab and does that jab have Leukaemia in it? If not then maybe he needs a killed vaccine although my kocka had to be stopped vacinating cos her littel body could not cope and its was safer for her with no vaccinations

with oscar it seems to be the flu that is the problem, he is already a carrier unfortunately they don't do enteritis on its own otherwise he would just get that, my vet says that laststhree years in reality anyway

If the boosters have leukaemia as part, then the best way is to not have that included.........if yoou want to still have it it can be done on its own. That should stop the side effects.

It would be my luck that I decided not to have the boosters any more and then something would happen which would mean I need a cattery in a hurry!

mine have just had theirs - given at home, while still on my bed!!

no ill effects at all, and I don't think Trigger even realised the strange lady did anything to him at all - Tiffany put up a token fuss, of course, but she is a little (metaphorically speaking) madam

I hate paying for these vaccinations though, but as I live on my own with no cat minder near I never can be sure I won't need to use the cattery

I am dreading it because Teeko is due his first boosters in March and my little snow boy is the biggest wuss ever

- if it wasnt for the fact that I may have to use a cattery at some point I really dont think I would have the vaccinations done!

Harry had his first boosters on Friday evening and has been poorly all weekend - off his food, lethargic and has got the runs really badly. I feel like a really bad Mummy and sometimes really wonder if these boosters are worth it?

He is a lot better this morning and ate his breakfast but has still got the runs.
