His thyroid was either 54 or 56, so in the high end of normal - labs advice was to retest in a month. Obviously his liver will also need retesting in a month. So, he can't be rehomed for the next month till we get the results back and know if he is hyper-t, or if he has some kind of liver disease. Hopefully the teeth was just causing his ALT to be high, and hasn't suppressed his thyroid, but he will still be borderline hyper-t, so could be an issue rehoming him. He also has a heart murmur.

On the positive side, they dont want to see him back again till his bloods, and he is eating really well - he was only eating one food before his dental, I have tried him on some more normal food and he is eating, so now the test is what flavours, as up to now he has only eaten one flavour of food!!

Haven't checked how much of his tea he has eaten, but he has had all his cat milk again, so at least had his meds. TBH, i dont think JEannie is aware of it, as she is completely deaf, and was fast asleep earlier when he walked past and spat at her.

Yeah, me too - he was a tad fussy this morning, but is much brighter in himself- I allowed him to go outside yesterday as he is climbing the walls in desperation and he came back - he wants to go back out today, but I have to go and pick up some stuff from a friend soon, so he is having to wait. He still doesn't like Jeannie though, she gets spat at even when she is fast asleep, bless her. Hopefully his ALT will go down at the next bloods, and we can then look at rehoming him.

He had a checkup yesterday and his mouth was still quite red, and he was reluctant to have it checked, so he got half a dose of Metacam, and he has to go back on Wed. He has eaten really well since then, so obviously feeling much better - he didn't even want to wait for me to rip his chicken smaller, he tried to take it off me in a really big piece!! He will only eat Whiskas Oh So chicken flavour though, so had to go and buy a load of it yesterday.

He is eating, although only small bits, but he has just had 9 teeth out - unlike Rolo, who had 11 out and wolfed two pouches while at the vets!! He had lovely snuggles on my knee yesterday and was upset when I had to move him. His eyes were still a bit dilated last night, although forgot to check that this morning. Just need to see what the vet says about rehoming him now.

Well, the sensitivity food had gone overnight, I gave him some Sheba and he tucked into the first half of the tray, although has ignored the second half. He is now drinking his cat milk laced with Antirobe, so he might eat a bit more after that. I am happier that he has eaten, i thought we were going to have to go back to the vets tonight!!

Thanks everyone - had a very fraught day!! Vet rang at 11, they had had a nightmare getting bloods out of him, and his ALT was double what it should be, so the vet asked if I Was willing to take the risk with the dental. I agreed, as the alternative was letting him go, so she put some fluids into him to be on the safe side. he had to have 9 teeth out, so no teeth left at all now, and not willing to eat, so if no better by the time I get home tomorrow, he will have to go back to the vet. He is dribbling a bit of blood and looks very doped - they gave him an extra strong painkiller before leaving to be on the safe side, but it is vitally important he starts to eat, as obviously not eating can make the liver worse. He had put some weight on though, which surprised me as he feels thinner - still underweight though. He isn't allowed his cat milk till the morning.

MM - vet didn't want to give him anything without having liver/kidney tests in case there were issues there, or that it might mask what is really going on. I was fairly sure his kidneys were fine as he hardly drinks, but didn't know about his liver. Vet doesn't feel his thyroid is high enough to warrant medication but a retest of his liver in about a month is advised - that shoudl be fun, he has fought them both times for his blood so far!!

The only thing I can think of is long term antibiotics, but ultimately I think he might suffer if I go down that route - when we checked his mouth two weeks after the Convenia and steroid jab, he had ulcers, it stunk and parts were bleeding - he then proceeded to scratch his mouth to relieve the pain - Fortunately the Antirobe worked, but I would be worried about a - how long it would take before it became resistant, and b - how long it would take for him to stop taking them, I Can't pill him cos his mouth is too sore, so it is hidden in cat milk.

Well, it is Sam's dental tomorrow, just about to go and remove his food for the night. Am very nervous about tomorrow, as he will be having his liver and kidneys checked first, we already know his thryoid is a tad high, and so is his heartrate, I am just praying his organs are OK for the anaesthetic, as if it isn't, I will have to let him go. It would be a shame, as he is such a loving little boy, and loves to sit with you, but he can't live with a bad mouth. If he does get through the dental, then we have to decide what to do about his long term future, i.e how we treat his thyroid, and also about rehoming him. He is getting better with other cats, although ironically he hates Jeannie more than most of the cats in the house!!

We have JWB, Hills and Burns (the kitten ones are round, and i am not too bothered by him having kitten biscuits with being underweight), he seems to have eaten some of the kitten ones. He loves the Whiskas Oh So though, and have got a decent amount into him today, got about another 8 pouches or so left, so should get him through his dental, and still 3 trays of Sheba terrine for him, and cat milk and chicken.

Yep, even though he's not been as great today!! I bought him some sliced chicken (proper chicken, not the processed stuff), so am getting some of that in him, as well as cat milk, and the odd bit of cat food - it looks like he has eaten some more of the kitten biscuits overnight too.

Just as I was on the phone waiting for them to answer, he dived into the Whiskas Oh So that I put out, so as long as he continues to eat that, we shall be OK. I did leave some kitten biscuits down last night too, in case they are smaller and easier, someone has eaten them, but it could have been Kizzy. I know he did try, but his mouth must have been too sore.

Thanks everyone - I need some eating vibes now, as his mouth is obviously very sore to eat, I am going to see if the vets will let me pick up some more Antirobe in the morning (annoyed with myself as I Was only there last night, but he wasn't as bad yesterday). he doesn't like a/d, but is drinking cat milk (which is good as he doesn't drink water), and I am going to get some chicken for him tomorrow.
