I sometimes make a home made diffuser for my camera flash, just sellotaping a bit of grease proof paper or white carrier bag over the flash. As my kitties are moslty white it stope the flash 'bleaching' them, downside is it makes the room really dark

ah, thanks a lot for the advice everyone. its hard getting any daylight around here in the middle of winter, seems to be nonstop gloom haha. I will try by a window anyway, but i think flash should be ok from what youve said, she isnt a kitten although we dont know her exact age. anyways if i take any good shots i will show you guys how they turned out! thanks again.

Definitely agree, I have quite a good camera but the pics I take at night with the lights on and the camera flash are pants compared to ones taken in natural daylight.  As long as your cat isn't a tiny kitten then I wouldn't worry about using the flash to take pics of him/her although you'll defo get better shots in daylight.

They usually tell you  safe distance to use the flash from in the manual. Also with most camera software, you can brighten the photo. Otherwise, you can use photobucket to upload your pictures to and they have image enhancement. Also you can get bigger pictures with photobucket and it's free.

Most cameras work a LOT better in natural, bright sunlight - take your cat to a windowsill, or an area in front of a patio door or something, get the camera as close to the window as you can so you're photographing the sunlit side and snap away! :)

I think most are taken with a flash and mine dont seem to mind except Ducha who seems to be very sensitive to light and has blue eyes, he even closes them in the sun.

If your cat is a young kitten, it may not like the flash but if its older then I dont think the flash would hurt it.

hey guys, new here.

ive been trying to take some photos of my new cat but they are not coming out very well because they are too dark.. i am thinking i should use flash but will this not frighten her or damage her eyes... i hate camera flashes enough lol! she wont know what is going on.. i see some really good photos on here how do you guys do it???
