Without wishing to sound like a BAFTA acceptance speech "Of course I owe it all to the puds etc.", the only two things that I have ever won in my life, nearly 50 years worth, are down to the cats, they're my lucky mascots and they'll all be getting special cuddles and even more fussing tonight, my happiness tinged with a little sadness as I so wish that Suzie was still with us to share in their moment of glory.

When I spoke to the lady at the band's office she told me that the top entry which had over 900,000 views had admitted to buying the first 100,000 views. That's the point, the more views the more the video is in the spotlight and thus the more views it gets. That's why these companies exist to "promote" videos and thus inflate their genuine popularity. I don't think that the makers of the video can feel too aggrieved by the band's decision although of course they might have paid out more to buy their views than they are now receiving

, in which case, IMO, justice has been done to all those who played fair and entered into the spirit of the thing. As I said it couldn't have come at a better time with the new flat on the near horizon, a lovely Christmas present and one that wouldn't have been possible except for all you Purrs peeps who supported and promoted it into a top ten position.

Hi folks,

Some of you will remember my video contest entry (link in sig) to the Marillion Video Contest on YouTube. The contest ended on the first of December and the video finished 9th overall but out of the top prize money. I haven't heard anything from the band but earlier received an e-mail from them announcing that, as so much "manipulating" and "inflating" of viewing figures had occurred they had decide to rather than award a £5000 prize to the top entry, they would award a prize of £500 each to the top ten entries and thus I have won £500. What a great suprise and so very useful to help me buy a few items for my new flat in the New Year, the timing just couldn't have been better. Apparently some of the top entries have admitted to buying views and putting pop-up on websites etc. to inflate their viewing figures a process that I did suspect was going on.

Again, many thanks to all who supported my entry and passed details on to friends and family, I'm over the moon at this news.
