My mum grows cat nip for her cat Zan, and he regularly breaks into the greenhouse and eats the plants down to ground level.  It's never seemed to harm him, other than making him stoned.

My own cat Spook seems to be immune to the effects - she's completely uninterested in the stuff. She goes nuts over wheatgrass though. *shrug* Cats are weird, weird, creatures.

You can buy catnip tea leaves for cats - which you brew into a tisane - so I am confident no harm ensues from a cat eating the leaves.  In general, like Blackcat, I wouldn't encourage it but I wouldn't worry if Blip ate some.

In fact, now I think about it, she does eat some from time to time when I refresh her toys.

And no sincere question is silly, in my opinion for what it's worth

No, I suspect others are just loitering around the auction room and too focussed on their target bids to get around it chatting, Summerleft. I don't imagine a couple of dried leaves would hurt, but would not encourage it - a dried leaf has a higher concentration of chemicals than a fresh one.

Not a stupid question  ;D  One of the tips to get a poorly cat to eat is actually to sprinkle catnip on it!  Mine don't eat it but I wish they would sometimes the mess it makes  :evillaugh:
