Well because Jasper is new to the household he's been staying in until he knows us well enough for us to guarantee he will come home again.. this means that the flap's been locked so that if we let Rufus and Oscar out... they can come in but noone can get out again. Last night when I came home from work I was a little confused to find Rufus greeting me round the other end of the house. He's a cat who popps in and out and never stays out for longer than about an hour at a time so thought it was odd that he would have been outside from when OH had gone to work and let him out til the evening when I got in from work.
When I got in the house, Rufus trotted in with me and Oscar and Jasper were waitig round their foodbowls cause they know I feed them as soon as I get home. I fed them and then went to check cat flap hadn't somehow opened and found it to be in the same condition as I when we left... we assumed that Rufus had found somewhere nice to go in the day and that was that. During the evening, about every 10 mins, Jasper was going up to the flap and headbutting it, trying to pull the flap up and genereally get out of it with no success cause it was completely locked so I started to wonder if they'd found a trick for getting out. Considering Jasper had never even noticed the flap before... I came to the conclusion that something fishy was going on!
This morning, I witnessed it first hand! I thought it was quite in the house so looked out to find all 3 cats playing in the garden.... I was very confused and so went to call them in and they all came. Next thing I know, Jasper is out there again.... Still confused and then I see that where the wind has been quite stong... it was pushing the flap in a little and Rufus was pulling it up and slipping underneath. I can only assume that they had all been doing this all day yesterday! Crafty kitties!
Of course I don't mind the other 2 going out at all anyway but was planning on keeping Jasper in for at least another week BUT he's beat me to it and has let himself out!
In all honesty OH and I are quite pleased because it means we have skipped that horrible day of worry where you let the out for the first time, he's proved he loves us enough to come home and knows where his family live and it now means that the boys can go back to the level of freedom that they are accustomed to! Since I realised this about an hour ago I opened the catflap lock so that they could use it without problems, have kept a good eye on him and he's been all over the neighbours gardens and in and out of the house 4 or 5 times so he definately knows where he lives.
|Really, even if he wasn't fussed about us (which luckily he is! Soppy cat!) he is inseparable with Rufus so I can't imagine him wanting to be away from his best bud.
