I love the picture of sleepy Bella - reminds me of Mr Perseus (AKA Percy-Puss)

Awww how cute!! their marking as sooo similar  :Luv2:

Bella must have been a good girl for blood to be taken from her leg  ;D my vet usually goes for the neck, hair grows back pretty quickly  ;D

She's very good, considering now timid she can be around new people she still never bites of lashed out. Izzy on the other hand.......probably why there's a chunk of fur missing from her neck. I bet she kicked up a fuss  :evillaugh:

Does hair grow back really quickly. Izzy in particular looks lobsided lol

Is that little pad shes on any good, often wondered about buying one

Mine love it. It's great for directing them to sleep where I want as they will follow it and flop down wherever I put it. It's on my desk most of the time so I can see what they are up to  :shify:

Even dissolvable stitches are a pain as the cat can still pull them out!
Dont worry about them having their chips done whilst awake, cats are tough and rarely notice

I can believe they forgot to chip them! I hope they didn't charge you for that! I take it they didn't explain why they hadn't used the disposible stitches in the end. If I was you, I would complain to the head of the practice about the poor communication.

I strange because the other vets there are so lovely. they come recommended andare good value (antibiotics where £3 for the shot ans £6 for a weeks course - whihc sounds reasonable but i may be wrong). I will definately make sure Izzy is glued or that they at least use disolvable stitches this time

I would consider maybe finding another vets if at all possible - they sometimes seem to forget that WE are the customers and they are there to provide a service.  When Izzy is spayed I would defiantely insist on the glue.

Love and huggles for you and your little ones. xxx

well my visit was a bit of a farce after all the 'are you medical' nonsense and telling me the stitches were disolvable ones they went and used ones that need removing - which is a complete pain because it mean between then I'm going to require 6 vet visits in the next month - oh work WILL be pleased  :tired: to make matters worse they 'forgot' to chip them even though is said at the top of the form I signed that they were to be hipped. Now Bella is going to have to have a chip done while awake which i bet is going to hurt.

- Vets advised keeping Bella still - anyone any advise on how to keep a grumpy hyperactive kitten 'still'  :evillaugh:

our vet always uses glue if it can be used, and doesn't charge extra...

he also smears all wounds with a weird green cream that apparently tastes *awful* to make animals leave it alone, and it has aloe vera to help healing

I believe its normal and she will get used to it,,,,,just give extra fuss

Sounds like they gave Izzy blood test cos ABs dont go into neck like that. If they did its cos they wanted to be sure she was OK for the op but they should have told you when you picked her up.

Its sad that the vet wasnt better this morning cos then you could have said dont do one withoutvthe other, so they would have both had collars at same time. But probably easier to cope with one at a time  ;D

well they are back home. Its been such an emotional day I walked inot the house, let them out...and burst into tears  :shy: feeling a bit better now. Izzy still seems fine althought it was a bit of a shock when i noticed they had shaved a big area of fur from here neck - probably for the antibiotic injection. Bella seems ok to - she's bouncing off the walls and the scar seems really neat. It was a nicer vet when i piked them up so I got to ask lots of questions. Apparently they had been all over the vetinary nurses - little cuddle bums  :Luv2:

My only problem now is that bella keeps licking and biting at the stiches (they are ones the vet has to remove *joy*). I've tried the collar and she lays on the fllor stunned for a few minutes and then throws herself around the room backwards. I'm worried she'll hurt herself  :( also its tied on with a piece of bandage. I've had to tie it a little tight otherwise she has it off problem is now I'm worried she'll get stuck and choke. HELP please someone tell me all this is normal before by hormones cause me to burst into tears again!  :-[

If I were you I'd request a different vet  There is one at my practice that I won't let deal with my animals for various reasons. I also only use one of the vets for Molly. There is no reason why you have to put up with him and to be honest he doesn't sound very nice  :scared:

  for Izzy and   for you and   for Bella

I've never paid more than that, an antibiotic jab (if she has one) would be £5.  My vets always seem to give a jab and then a course of tablets.

I know I'll try I was a bit in shock so I'll have to ask him more about it when i pick them up. How much is a course of antibiotics likely to cost?

Not very much, less than a tenner I'd say.

Nope she seems absolutely fine: still very active - eating everything i put down and passing perfect stools so i have no idea what it could be. The vet said not to worry as he doesn't suspect anything really awful........so naturally I'm a nervous wreck now

Poor Izzy, better to be safe than sorry though.  Was she off colour at all?  Hope the antibiotics sort out whatever it is that's causing the blood results  As for that mean vet  >:( You may not be 'medical' but seeing as you are paying him you are allowed a say in the welfare of YOUR cat, I'd make a note of his name and then if you ever have a routine appointment in the future you can avoid him.

P.S I changed the title on your first post for you as if you do it on any other post it only changes that one particular post, not the whole thread.

oh god I spoke to soon the vet just rang bella's bloods came back fine and she being done but Izzy's bloods came back showing high enzyme levels and she has a temperature so they aren't going to perform the op just to be safe. The vet said he wants to put her on a course of antibiotics for this week and see what she's like then. Now I really an worried

I would insist on the internal stitches and glue - my vets always use that method but some vets will only do it if you ask.  It is a lot less stressful for the cat and the healing time is a lot quicker.

I am sure they will be fine but dont forget the "special" tea x

well i just dropped them off. The vet wasn't particularly helpful - he just asked me to sign some papers and that was it. I asked him what stitches he was going to use and he asked if  was 'medical'  made me feel like a crazy cat lady. He asked how i tell them apart so i told him - bella is smaller, browns eyes white leg etc etc and he just frowned and said 'biggers and smaller will be enough thanks' strange I want the normal nice vet again  :tired:

Ask if they can do internal stitches and glue the wound together (usually costs £5.00 extra) then theydon't need no nasty head collars - we have done our ladies this way since we adopted Clio at 11 months and totally feral - her CP name was Chaos her brother Lima eas formerly havoc - she was petrified and we lost a couple of the stitches and then our own vets said they should have glued!

Good luck with them tomorrow both lovely ladies!

Ask for glue rather than stitches, saves a lot of stress and hassle  ;D
Its a very quick op and most of the time they dont notice anything has changed. They will of course need a tasty chicken dinner to make up for it
