He's a bloke - definitely! He bit her for no apparant reason a little while ago too, the first time he's ever done it. He did a real number on her hand.

Kidney problems, diabetes...etc.

She needs to take the cat to a vet just to rule out medical issues before deciding that it's behavioural, like grief. The cat may even be asserting (his) role as the male of the household. (What sex is the cat?)

I would get her to get him checked for cystitis, but I reckon it is grief. Rescue Remedy is supposed to really help, Cinnamon Trust use it on cats who have lost either a human or a feline friend, and Feliway might help.

I thought the other day I'd suggest putting soil in his litter tray, see if it made a difference. He was very close to the ladys husband - he kind of chose the man in the marriage and the other cat chose her.

Could it be stress related with the loss?

I know Lyla would pee everywhere for reasons unknown, in the washing basket, on my sons bed and no beanbag is safe, she has stoped doing this now though. I think it was because she likes to do toilet outdoors.

I think the lady has trouble sleeping - she's in a lot of pain due to arthritis and can't sleep through that lovely scratching that cats do when shut out of a room! I mentioned cystitis - thanks, Dawn.

cystitis is one - although my tilly went through a bed wetting phase as a kitten I think she liked the feel of the duvet!!  I had to shut her out of the bedroom for a few months and she seemed to forget all about it

What illnesses can it be a sign of? I know some, but want as much info as possible. A lady I know is having trouble with her cat who keeps weeing on her bed when she's in it. She's convinced it's not a medical problem, but if I can make her aware of how many possible health issues it could be, she might re-assess the situation. She loves her cats dearly and says this particular cat hasn't been the same behaviour wise since the loss of her husband just over a year ago.
