Not been on here for AGES.  Things have been hectic at home and the sanctuary.  Little Samson and Delilah were re-homed last week to a lovely ex-pat family.  We had got very attached to the two little terrors and found it hard to part with them.  We had a few days grace and ended up with another 3 tiny babies!  Those were only here a short while and have now been re-homed all together.  Homer misses his "foster babies" but Marge was elated when they left.  No maternal instinct at all!  The sanctuary has expanded and now has 140+ cats and kittens and a seperate sanctuary outside with 19 dogs and puppies!  Its never ending.  We are re-homing approximately 3 a month but getting in twice as many!  Struggling for funds as usual and volunteers are hard to get but we are getting there.  we are getting more and more support so things are looking up.  Hope you are all okay out there.  I will try to keep up with you all!

My parents and brother were from Gillingham, Kent and I was born in Cyprus.  Spent about 22 years on and off in Cyprus.  My dad was in the civil service and did several 3 year tours out here during his career.  Mum retired here when my Dad died and we followed 6 years ago after my husband retired from the Army.

little Samson is stopping with us (along with his sister Delilah) until they are big enough to put in the sanctuary.

Where are you from originally?

Thanks so much for putting the photo's up.

Unfortunately we have no photo's of "Spike".

Marge and Homer are both our rescue cats and little Samson is stopping with us (along with his sister Delilah) until they are big enough to put in the sanctuary.

Rhea is our German pointer we rescued at 3 months old and the handsome Buddy is an English pointer who we rescued at 4 months old.  Buddy is just being fostered by us until a loving home can be found.  He was found tied by his back leg on a dusty track in the middle of no where at just 4 months old.  He was very thin and weak.  But he is now 8 months and is looking fab.  Its been an uphill struggle to get him built up but we got there in the end.

Oh my word - these are fantastic!  Homer is the most adorable feller - his nose and feet - scrumptious!!  And what a beautiful place.  What an amazing place for the rescues to find a safe haven.

That's great news about the little feral, Sandy.  It sounds like you're doing really well, considering you've not long been open, and to have been able to have given sanctuary to 70 cats and kittens is an amazing start.  :)  I can imagine it will be an uphill struggle, which is why I'm all the more admiring of you for it.  I wonder if many of the ex pat Brits would fancy taking on a cat or three (long term, full commitment of course!) ?

Sandy, what are your own cats and dog called, and what do they look like?

Welcome to Purrs Sandy.  I have a lovely family who have adopted one cat from me and are taking another two shortly.  They are coming to Cyprus next Tuesday, (Conchita, the lady, originates from Cyprus), to stay with her family for a couple of weeks.

I will let them know about your new sanctuary and they may come and hunt you out, they are real animal lovers.

I have had no success in making the photo's smaller which is such a shame because I have some fab ones.  I also wanted to post some photo's of our new cat sanctuary.  Hey ho, you will just have to come over and visit it!  We are desperately trying to raise funds now to continue the sanctuary and build on a rescue kennels for dogs and stabling for rescued donkeys and horses.  It's a slow process especially in a country who are not particularly animal lovers! Even re-homing is difficult although i am jumoing for joy this week as an injured ferral cat we found on the road 2 months ago (broken pelvis and jaw), paid for its vet bills and got it back to good health has just gone to a new home.  Purrrrfect happy ending.  :cheer: :cheer:

Hi Everyone
Thanks for the great welcome.  I live near Larnaca which is about an hours drive from Malcolm Cat Sanctuary.  Great place isnt it?  They do fantastic work there.  I am trying to get some photo's reduced using the suggested jpg compressor but they are not small enough still!  When I figure out how to get smaller ones on then I shall send some pics to you all.
Only 37 degrees here today!!!!
Sandy :)

hi

My name is Sandy.  I live in Cyprus and work as a volunteer for an Animal Rescue and Protection Charity called ARGOS.  We have just opened the Cat Sanctuary part of our intended Animal Sanctuary and already have 70 cats and kittens in.  I have 2 kittens at home who are so tiny that they need individual care until they are stronger.  We have 2 cats and a dog of our own and one dog we are fostering until he gets a new home.  Looking forward to "meeting" you all on this board.   :)
