pretty much all sachets I've come across say 2 sachets a day with dry food or three without.

Five sachets of cat food!!! At two per cat per day, my four wouldn't last a day on those rations!!! A friend does supermarket cat food runs for me since I've had Fred and Vic. She usually goes to Asda and buys masses of tins of both the Tiger and Whiskas. As she's a busy person, she can only go once a fortnight, so I need to stock up in that one run. (This is cos my local corner shop sells Whiskas at 65pence per can!).

I thought the whole point of a supermarket was to SELL THINGS! This is how they make money. If they refuse to let people purchase, they'll go broke, especially in a recession.

Start waving goodbye to Tescos.

*shock* Wow, I have never heard of anything so mad in my life! That is absolutely insane! I mean I go to tescos at 3am and use a self serve checkout so people don't tell me to go put things back but if they did I'd not only be mortified but I'd have serious reservations about shopping there again. If you have the money to afford what you're buying why on earth should they limit you?

Thankfully I never buy my cat food at tescos. If I did I'd have a rude shock because I buy a lot more than that at a time. My last shop for cat food totaled... 82 cans I plan to buy more than that next time I go shopping. I plan on buying 104 cans. That way I always have stuff in when I want it.

I can't understand why they would do that restriction, especially on such a low number but I rarely shop in Tesco as mine just isn't easy to get to, so fraid I do most of mine in Asda, and I can only get some of hte HiLife mine like in Asda as well.

Just saw this thread. Went to Tesco this am and saw a notice restricting purchase to 5. I assumed they meant any product in the store but must have been in cat grub section. Also assumed it must be coz our Tesco is a diddy one (sorry Dawn

It isn't just where you can afford to shop - for those of us who rely on public transport and/or taxis to get to and from the supermarket it's about where we can get to.

But back to the point of this thread - I think it's crazy to say you can only buy 6 pouches at once. That's hardly anything. Would be 1 days worth meals in this household. I dont see how it makes any difference who buys the stuff - it's on the shelf there to be bought. If one person buys it all and there's none left for other customers that's just tough. They will have to wait until they are back in stock just as they would if several customers bought a few each.

No one is judging anyone, people shop where they can afford to. If people are aware of the ethical side of certain shops and can afford to go elsewhere then great, if not then no-one is saying you should feel bad - just that we should be aware that's all.

You said Asda is a place to be avoided if you care about humans and employment rights etc. Which makes it sound like if a person shops there they don't care ... which is an unfair assumption. I'm sure everyone (especially on Purrs) cares.

Not everyone is free to choose where they shop either. Not everyone can afford to shop in Waitrose because it's far too expensive for them - so they couldn't shop there even if they wanted to. A lot of people are restricted to the supermarket that is closest to them. For instance I can only get to Sainsburys, if that was Asda then the only place I could get to would be Asda.

Hang on a minute you guys,its alright talking about being animal friendly etc etc but most people cant afford do shop in these other places and they have no choice,I dont think its fair for us to judge where people shop,I admit I do shop in Asda and I love their prices and it fits with my budget well,if I won the lotto then maybe I would shop in "better animal friendly shops".

Asda is owned by Walmart so they're probably a supermarket to be avoided if you care about humans and employment rights for workers overseas as well.

This Tesco business is incomprehensible. They're not a cash & carry? If they can't keep decent stock on their shelves they don't deserve to stay in business at all. It's my understanding that the larger branches have stock delivered most nights of the week which is what all this scanning at the checkout is for rather than just ringing up each item's value. I think something else is going on. My local branch of Lidl hasn't had any pouches on sale now for weeks and it's depriving my puss of his favourite flavours of gravy. Not that he eats any of the chunks, oh no, he just likes lapping the gravy, so I'm having to go elsewhere for his liquids at the moment.

Asda are the bottom of the pile where animal Welfare is concerned - way behind any other supermarket.

I prefer Asda too - although they don't have a massive range of cruelty free products. Only thing is our local Asda is always absolutely heaving, no matter what time you go at. Again, though I've never heard of them having a limit of sachets.

That is bloody ridiculous.

Lots of people only go to the supermarket once a week and what if you have more than 1 cat? Stupid, stupid people. They should fill thier shelves up.

When my Smudge was alive he mostly had tins of Tuna but he did like Tuna puches from Wikinson's (their own make) and it was always the one that was never on the shelf (well, nearly never) so when their was some I used to empty the shelf and I would even go to Customer Services and ask if they had any more in the back of the store.

My Mum met the same problem at her local Tesco's. She buys individual pouches as her cat will only eat one flavour. There was no notice on the shelves and was told by the manager that there was a limit but they would let her off this time.

ive never had that many problems apart from the staff thinking im a div cause ive asked them to get me something that is on the bottom shelf towards the back usually cat food the pack of 12 cause mine only like the cheap wet food if i do it i tend to pull my shoulder and i do admit they are very poorly stocked but i have the same with asda at the moment i can never find anything i want this is why i stock up on things like bread and tins but to be honest i think most of the time they darent restrict me to so many cause by the time im finished im very stressed

I used to buy them when I still had Hamish, used to average 16 sachets at a time and nothing was ever said to me.
I had a look when I was down at Tesco's and I saw no sign (big or small) stating you could only buy X amount ??
our local paper carried on the story tonight and it said that you are limited to 6 sachets per purchase.

like Den has said, I dont know why they dont sell them in boxes ?? I used to feel a right

tipping my
basket onto the conveyor and all the sachets scattered about everywhere

our Tesco is quite large and sell clothes and electronics tv's etc
and the Tesco branded catfood shelf always seems well stocked??

Not everyone has the time to do that. You would think their computerised stock cotrol would increase quantities if it sells out so quick. They hardly ever have that or the Tuna one they sell in singles.

Yes I had that problem before I could drive when Kocka was still alive.

She would only eat one flavour of Sheba and in my online delivery I was only allowed to buy 10.......this 10 was of any item and as I only shopped once a month I could not get the fizzy water I needed either.

The excuse given when I rang the manager was exactly the same as the article and I had to fight to get the address of Tescoes MD becuase nobody would give it to me.

I spent so much tome on the phone it was ridiculous and around the same time mass amounts of cat food wre being bought by one or two of the rescues on here.......well it was CC at the time, but I couldnt get the basic food i needed for my cat and myself.

I see people buy trays of individual pouches all the time. Not too long ago I saw a man filling his trolley to the top with nothing but bread rolls, he was told this time he could do it but in future had to phone before buying so many.

Maybe Tesco needs to start doing boxes of their most popular favourites instead of just having them individually. I'm sure they'd sell very well.

They always seem short of those so it's down to poor stock control. Clapton went through a phase of only eating them and I struggled to get more than a few at a time.

I bought 40 boxes of Felix in one go when it was 2 for £4 in Tesco. I even asked if there was a limit and they said no.

I also bought 16 boxes of Felix senior in Sainsbury's last week, leaving 2 on the shelf and nothing was said.
