Two cats needing a new home - Derbyshire

They should have no worries with me. You can always tell if people really want to keep a cat/s or not when they don't whatever you advise they change the ‘ball game’.  I usually say if you want to keep the cats I can help you but if you are really saying you don't want the cats then I can help too but it may take a little time. Usually they come clean, which saves us all time. So we only offer solutions when we can tell the reason for needing to re-home can be solved and the cat/s are really wanted, perhaps the real problem  is a flea problem and a caller we has no idea how to go about it. I remember once a lady wanted us to take in 3 cats due to a flea problem, we paid for the cats to be treated and for  ‘Staykill’ for the home. Problem solved and advice given so the problem would not arise. Another time a lady wanted to re-home her cats because they suddenly would not get on. They were placed on the list waiting to come in although she really did want to keep them, advice was given as to how to solve the problem or at least make things easier until they could be taken in. A while later she rang and asked me to take the cats off the list as the problem was ‘sorted’

Now this morning I have already received calls to bring in 5 genuine emergencies, so it looks like another bad day.

I think if their owners have their minds set on re-homing though, they're best off out of there as soon as possible

I would agree with you, but why cannot people be honest and say I don't want them?

and any rescue person should know it doesn't matter how healthy the cat looks, or what we think of the reason, the owner feels it best to rehome, so we should just help them. In some cases you can persuade them, but I dont think this would be one of them.

I also know it does not matter how healthy the cat looks but the fact remains those cats will not get priority when there are cats outside now in life threatening situations that need help and we have no room. Sadly cats that are being cared for just have to wait until we have no more urgent cases. Simply not wanting them  unless it is for say medical reasons  or of course they were not being cared for properly is not priority.

 To be honest with you I would not dream of persuading anyone to keep a cat that I knew did not really want it.

I know the owners to a degree and they have persevered as long as they could but don't feel it's fair on George and Lola. They don't have enough time to give them the attention they need, and they daren't let them out even though they feel it necessary because they seem bored. they aren't heartless people and they wouldn't do this unless it was a last resort.

As stated Ela, it was a difficult decision for the owners to come to - whether we agree with them is irrelevant.

They do indeed look splendid cats, the pair of them.  I think if their owners have their minds set on re-homing though, they're best off out of there as soon as possible.

To be honest with you, If the little ones were on my list of cats waiting to come in they certainly not get priority. Sadly they are little ones out there who would kill for a home like that.

"I am looking to find a new home for 2 cats, brother/sister, one is 3yrs
old (male) and the other is 2yrs old (female). Both been spayed and had
their injections. They are very close so can't be separated, but need a
home where there are no other animals. They come with allsorts of
toys/beds/food bowls/litter tray/scratching post."

The cats are currently being kept as indoor cats and their owners feel they aren't getting enough mental stimulation. Both owners work long hours and can't spend more time at home, but can't give their cats indoor outdoor access due to the location of their house.

They given this a lot of consideration and feel it in the cats best interests to rehome.
