Weight loss in older cats

My elsest, who lives with my Grandparents, is 14 and i have noticed that she weighs less now. She was always small but solid, now she is light as a feather and has those brown specks on her eyes 

Yep, Carrie has them too. Don't worry, she'll still be getting the check up. But Jack's got to have his dental first!

My vet nurse says cats are like humans and actually put weight on with age, not the other way round, a vet visit is the best thing to be on the safe side. Molly has lost some weight recently, but I was feeding them both senior food, and she obviously can't have purely senior food, so building her back up at the moment!!

No sweetie I dont think its uncommon for older cats to get skinnier but get a vet to give the once over though just to be sure sure

MrsR, I know what you mean about not talking and it's OK. I used to do it too, and still do to a degree.

Sweetie our oldest is now 17 and has weighed the same for the last 15 years - vet is quite stunned by this but she read the bok on sleeping 18 hours a day and she does, she only goes out in nice weather and has a stroll across the garden to the catnip and gets all the treats and extra's she wants!

Miss Cissy a spritely feral lady aged 14.5 was a skinny thing when she first arrived 3 months ago and is now getting that nice rounded look and she is happy and safe now in the warm today she discovered the radiator bed gets warm and she looked so smug!

Tiger at 13 is diabetic and lost a lot of weight but is now back to 7kgs his full strutting weight and gets all the treats he wants to as a former feral occassionally at injection time he does somehow attach himself to your arm or leg if we aren't quite so good with the injection so I do mornings and Robin does evenings and no latching as both parents give him a treat!

As cats get older they tend to lose muscle tone, which can make them feel skinnier, and as MrsR. says it's probably just an age thing - but it's a good idea to have her checked over so if nothing else at least you'll have peace of mind!

Dinah is really very skinny, particularly around her shoulder blades.  Last time she went to the vet I asked them to weigh her because I thought she'd lost weight and she'd put on 200g!

It will put your mind atease if you get your vetto give your furbaby the once over, I know it did me, Sofa has to go regularly for check ups as she is very poorly (I daren;t talk about her on here - its a weird thing for me - say nothing and all is fine) but her weight for her age is fine and Bunty goes regularly as she is thin and old and I swearsuffers from dementia about food as always asks for it so every so often I take her justto double check its her weird somatic ways and age rather than something in sinister.   Sweetie I am sur eyour guys are all fine though but for your own peace of mind take them    Youare so like me and have to know 110%v

Awww, so Sofa's not a very plush one any more.

I'll make sure I take madam next month, just for a general check up anyway.

My Bunty and Sofa have lost wieght as she has entered the land of OAPs and the vets checked them out fully and says all is fine, think they do as they age - just like us

I've noticed Carrie, my old lady has lost a bit of weight recently and feels bonier.

She is eating, drinking and toileting normally as far as I can tell. What could be causing it? She's 18, on case that's relevant!

I'm hoping to take her for a general check up in the next month or so, after Jack has had his dental at the end of this month.
