I'm so sorry for your loss, Purrdy.  When you get your boy's ashes back, you could wait a while to see what you really feel is best, to keep them or scatter them. When your grief is less raw you'll be better able to decide how you would best like to remember your little boy.

All ours have been cremated and are now on a shelf in our bedroom

We have used 2 places, one in Ayrshire who were wonderful and our latest up here in Aberdeenshire it is like a human crematorium and the man who owns and runs it doers individual cremation and yes it costs a little more but at least you get your own baby back

I used a company in Hampshire - Dignity Pet Crematorium - for my cat (it's a bit gross - she was buried in a metal suitcase because we lived in rented and then dug up and moved with us to our next house, and then finally six years after her death her bones were cremated and placed in a lovely wooden sleeping cat shaped container) - but they treated us with extreme respect and I trusted and liked them enough to go back when my chinchilla died. It's completely worth spending the money just to know that your pet has been given the right amount of respect, and they're very gentle and caring to us grieving owners as well. I'm definitely going back to that specific crematorium when my pets pass on.

Yes, as others have said, an individual/private cremation means it will be your boy's ashes - the return of the ashes is such an emotional time, I'm so sorry for your loss

I don't know where you live but maybe people on here have experience of the company. There is a company here in Kent called Cherry Tree that is highly recommended and I have heard of others that are very good - one in Wales I have heard of.

As for the ashes, you may want to keep them but other people find it upsetting or morbid to do that. There are other altenatives such as lovely carved cats that are sealed. You can even have some of the ashes made into a diamond but it's quite expensive. Another company makes them into glass http://www.ashesintoglass.co.uk/pets.html One issue some people have is that they only use a small amount of the ashes for this.

Hi &  to Purrs, sorry it's under such sad circumstances 

If you have your pet individually cremated you will only get his ashes back, the joint cremations don't give the ashes back so if you are having his ashes back it will definitely be just him

yes recommened by my vet and the company are in yellow pages and have there own website etc
im due to get his ashes in the morning the guy is bringing them to our house not sure how ill cope yet and havent made up my mind wheather i should keep them ,bury them or scatter them

I'm so sorry your first post is such a sad one 

The rule of thumb is that unless you ask for an individual/private cremation then it might involve other pets.  If you pay for an individual cremation then you should expect it is only your pet.

Was this someone that was recommended by your vet?

when you have a private cremation for your pet do you ONLY get back your pet ?
the guy told me he does all cremations on a stainless steel tray to ensure you only get back your pet
but some other people have told me otherwise 
if i was being mislead in some way it would break my heart
