Jess is still eating which is something, he is loving the mixture of urinary food and felix. He is only having his urinary biscuits on his food around 10 at a time, over the course of the day this amounts up to 4g so I'm not too worried about him over doing it biscuit wise.

Jess has also shown an interest in the new water fountain which is good news. I really hope he drinks from it.

Good news  ;D

If he needs plenty of water then i would avoid the dry food.

rightly so you should be proud of Jess but please don't discount yourself in this progress.  Many people would have given up (not Purrs people of course) with him but you have done EVERYTHING you can to help him through this.  Well done to you and well done Jess.  May the progress continue

Really well.  :Luv:

Emma was thrilled with Jess said he looked great, not over weight, glossy coat, eyes etc. We're allowed to give him half and half food wise, so now his getting half felix and half urinary food and his gobbling it down. We're also going to get him urinary biscuits to try as he misses his biscuits but Emma thinks he should stay off the JWB really.

We're going to do a urine sample in 3/4 weeks to see whether its affecting him in anyway and providing its fine we can carry on with normal food.

She said he has come really far but he'll always be a sensitive boy as his one of lifes worriers, bless him, he didn't want to get back in the box to come home. We got home and I promptly burst into tears as I never thought we'd get this far with him I'm really proud of Jess and how we've got though this so far.

We just need to manage his stress really to keep him weeing.

Why not try felix and an acidifying supplement (thats if he even needs it, extra water in his food may suffice).

Hope you got on ok

Hi Millys Mum

This is what I am hoping the vet is going to suggest later, Jess is still on cystease and zylkene so fingers crossed she'll let us.

Thinking about it we had Hubby best mate staying with us saturday night .........Strangely enough, he almost went to the toilet in the garden saturday night I was shocked to be honest,

I wudda been too  :shify:  Hope you don't mind me lightening the mood a little coz I'm going thru the ringer like you atm and I know how distressing it is when they won't eat. Really hope things improve quickly.

Course I don't, to be honest after all we've been though with Jess this is the easiest thing to deal with so to speak.

Back to Hubby's mate staying I was also stressed after spending most of my weekend in the kitchen baking

It's rotten when they are so easily stressed, Charlie is the same and with the best will in the world we cannot protect them from everything.  Hope he picks up quickly

Thanks everyone  :thanks:

Thinking about it we had Hubby best mate staying with us saturday night and I wonder whether this has upset Jess a tad, I hadn't thought about it before. Strangely enough, he almost went to the toilet in the garden saturday night I was shocked to be honest, he scratched and went to squat then thought against it. About 30 minutes later he had wee'd in his litter tray.

Hrm!

Oh dear how worrying for you Leanne.  Think it's a good suggestion to maybe try him with a tiny bit of what he likes to see if he has just gone off his special food.  Good luck at the vet, let me know how you get on

Max goes through phases of being picky with his renal food as well, some days he'll chomp down the whole lot, other days he'll barely pick at it and just want his biscuits.  I always give him one 'normal' meal a day, normal being a senior pouch of Felix or similar to keep him interested in food, and that way he's still getting probably 75% renal food.  I've got to do his bloods again this month so it will be interesting to see if doing this is enough at the moment.

Good luck at the vets

hi Leanne, it's such a rollercoaster I know. Is there a test food that you can try to see if Jess is off all food or just has (as you say) gone off what's 'good for him'? When they don't feel 100% they get even more picky don't they.
Hope it goes well at the vet and it's just a temporary thing and Jess is noshing again soon. We had a visitor for the weekend and neither of my old boys ate properly as well due to the disruption in their routine. I know just how tricky it can be and send  :hug:s all round.

Jess not eating (again)
« Reply #1 on: September 01, 2008, 09:45:19 AM »
I'm at my wits end now!

This weekend I know its been warm but Jess has been eating quite well, till last night and this morning. I know we shouldn't but we've been putting whiskers sprinkles on his food to try and encourage him, but now he has taken to picking the sprinkles out and leaving the meat.

I don't think there is anything medically wrong he seems okay and is weeing, all be it a bit less.

Having spoken to my vet at work he has suggested getting him checked out to be sure and taking a urine sample with us, so looks like we're off to the vets tomorrow night when Emma (who knows Jess and his history) will be on.

We suspect that Jess might be a bit bored of urinary food so I don't know whether is feasible for him to go back on to Felix as I suspect that's what he really wants (he will very quietly creep past us to get to Milo's if we're not careful) given that we are managing his stress at the moment. But we'll have to see.

This little man has been trying my emotions this year I know that much.
