Mark you are right the decision to part with Vanity was a very difficult one with lots of soul searching; must admit once we put personal feelings aside and concentrated on the benefits to Vanity and weighed them against the damage to her emotionally  if things hadn`t worked  the decision became easier. I will add lots of tears were shed and looking at Sarahs pictures I know we made the right decision for this lovely girl.

 :cheer: to Sarah  ;D

How rewarding is it when a "difficult" cat shows some affection. I'm sure she will be repaid for her investment.
and well done Teresa, I can't imagine how hard it would be to part with a kitty after 8 years but understand it makes more room for another needy one.
Kylie was/is a bit of a handful and never a lapcat but lately she has taken to jumping on my lap once in a while (usually when I am sitting in the garden and she wants the chair!) and it gives me the biggest thrill  :Luv:

Alls well that ends well  ;D

It's wonderful to hear that she has a lovely home - I bet her new mum adores her.

Oh T

That has made my day - she looks SO relaxed and I can't believe that Sarah has managed to get a collar on her.  She is braver than I am!  It is true that every cat has their ideal slave/owner and I think Vanity has found her human soul mate.  I am so pleased for her.  She looks very happy.

Brilliant news!

Vanity has been in her new home for 4 weeks now and have just received another update on her progress which I thought would be nice to share, particularly as Vanity waited 8 years for the right home to be found.

this is a copy of the email
Hope you are all keeping well and you are benefiting from the good weather.

I attach a couple of photos of Vanity - you'll see she is now wandering around the garden, and she has a collar on!  She is still a little temperamental and will, as you know, go for a swipe with no warning - that said, these incidences are less frequent than the snuggling up, licking and purring!

The swipes are me are nowhere near as bad as the swipes on other cats who come into her garden - the size of her opponent doesn't seem to bother her at all and she actively pursues and chases others until they are off the premises!

Will keep you posted on progress.

All the best.

Sarah

Well after a stay of 8 years and almost 4months Vanity has gone to her new home this morning, she was purring for England and left us in floods of tears.
To rescues everywhere Never Ever Give Up, there is the Purrfect home for all of them, some just take longer to find. :)

I hope the lady still wants her after being caught by a claw  ;D If so I think its an amazing result and hope that vanity willbe very happy in her new home.

I guess Sasa the untouchable falls into similiar category but she has a home here now for 18 months, so I guess that is a result too.

Its great when really difficult cats get homes, even when its completely on their terms, cos they have warmth, regular food and someone who cares about them all the time. I know that Sasa might hate being locked in, touched, walked close to but she is hovering waiting for her food and comes an tells me she wants panic mouse on!

I bet Vanity likes her creature comforts now even if she is still wary of people, cos to be treated so badly I think, remains with them in their memory forever. The fact that after all this time she can go to a home of her own is just wonderful.

Carl
Vanity was her normal purry self, enjoyed being stroked before lashing out at both me and the lady, which I was pleased about as now Sarah her mum to be knows exactly what she is up against.
Vanity is 14years old now so its more than time she settled down to a cosy life.

How wonderful, I have had cats like that before,  one flew at my head and I could not get out of the bedroom, another time I was in a cat pen for two hours and could not get out. But I would never give up on them and loved them just as much as the 'normal' cats. After 5 years Tasmin, she who must be obeyed and (named after the Tasmanian Devil) found a loving home and they did not mind putting up with her temper tantrums.

I agree that no cat is unhomable and somewhere there is a home for that particular cat. it is just a case (although not easy) of finding the right one. I know if we kept all the so called unhomeable we would not be able to take any more in.

Vanity`s Tale
« Reply #1 on: February 06, 2007, 10:28:05 AM »
In December 1998 we rescued Vanity from a miserable live of living in the panel of a disused van, she had been badly beaten by her owners and she responded to any act of human kindness by purring before sinking in teeth and claws. In the first year she was found 2 experienced cat homes who both had to give up on her. We decided she was not safe to rehome after the lady from the second home ended up needing hospital treatment.Vanity has terrorised us on more than one occasion but has mellowed and learnt to be more tolerant of people. Her improvement prompted me to put her up for rehoming on our catchat rehoming pages and on Saturday an absolutely lovely lady spent almost 2 hours with us and we`ve just heard that Vanity has won herself a home.
Vanity wont be going to her new home until early March but after waiting all these years I dont think another month will hurt.
Catchat believe there is a good home waiting for every cat, I agree with them. Hope springs eternal.
