That sounds like a brilliant solution.

Thanks for the ideas.
I think I may have got someone.
My next door but one neighbour has offered and she will sit in with them everyday and keep nipping in - my two furbabes often visit her anyway so they will feel happy with her there.
Hopefully all will be well and I will leaver her vets phone numbers and insurance docs for my babies etc.  Fingers Crossed - Wished I'd never booked the holiday now - lol
thanka all xx

Definitely recommend a cat sitter ... I find that the dodgy ones' cards are usually 'out of stock' (a technique I use myself) to avoid offence, or complaints from the proprietors, but remember the vet can not recommend overtly a particular service as it would be highly unprofessional of them.

No, but you can ask the vet "would you highly recommend this person?" as I did and the vet (a v nice one admittedly) hinted quite strongly that I may like to try someone else he had in mind. I would get talking, say how nervy you are about leaving them and how you need someone really good. Still can't find anyone in London to live in though - it used to be quite easy or easy-ish. Now a lot of them are Kiwis etc travelling through London and taking temp work where they can find it. They may be fine but are often not really "cat" people, so a problem if you don't have easy-peasy young, healthy cats.

You may struggle to fit them into a cattery at short notice, its a popular time of year

Definitely recommend a cat sitter - I have always used them since i discovered they existed. But make sure you get one from a company - not just someone who advertises in the paper. The company sitters are all police checked and so forth so you know you are safe giving them access to your home. Homesitters' can actually provide someone to live in which is great as the house is clearly occupied when you are away. They also collect your mail, prevent junk mail accumulating, water your plants and so forth. Mine I did not have to feed, some you do. But do phone around all the companies in your area that offer the service. As someone else has suggested, your vet will also be able to recommend someone. I find that the dodgy ones' cards are usually 'out of stock' (a technique I use myself) to avoid offence, or complaints from the proprietors, but remember the vet can not recommend overtly a particular service as it would be highly unprofessional of them.

I rang every vet in the area. Some pretty much hinted at 'don't use that one' or actually recommended some other person as having been positively mentioned by patients' slaves.
I am still looking for someone really great like I used to have many years ago though. She used to live in as well (more expensive but what price peace of mind?!). Mostly they just pop in to feed once or twice a day.  Good luck!

You could check with the vet and see if they have any recommended pet sitters. They will probably know of someone you can trust.

Otherwise you could check out these http://www.homesitters.co.uk/?source=overture&ovkey=house+sitting

I would never use a cattery either - I think cats are far happier in their familiar surroundings  :)

I believe I am not interested to know whether Vivisection produces results that are profitable to the human race or doesn't. To know that the results are profitable to the race would not remove my hostility to it.  Mark Twain
