I acquired Jakey from a rescue, he was a 4 yr old black cat called Jet.  He steadfastly refused to answer to this name so a month in I sat down and called him every name I could think of,  he finally responded to Jakey, so you could say he picked his own name.

I know - I must be totally loopy, but you forgive them anything when they gaze at you.  Except the time I found a very young, very dead naked fledgling wrapped up in my headscarf on the hall floor!

errrrm, and remembering that behaviour you are venturing into ownership of a Tonk!

They do have a way of worming their way out of the mayhem and destruction they cause, don't they - I say this as Smidgen has wandered in from outside and is now planting himself firmly on my right hand so I have to pay attention to him and not type any more... :Luv:

Now I think about it,  BC, I don't think we have pre-named any of ours either.  Sidney got his name from my daughter.  He was perched on the bookcase (all 6 inches of him) and she said "He looks a right little s*d so he became Sid the S*d although he was gorgeous.  Our Burmese were called Ming and Jade for reasons beyond me as they were the least delicate and fragile animals known to man.  The only fragile thing about either of them was the number of ornaments they managed to hurl on the floor (usually deliberately when they were in a huff over something).

I always find it necessary to meet and know the animal before I name it. Smidgen and Esther came pre-named, but when they don't have a name (or it is just one the rescue gave them in Sofie's case) I will sometimes spend two or three days getting to know them before I name them. My sister did the same with my neice and nephew and it drove the family nuts

Don't even go there Gill    I think Desley is probably right, it was the fund raising link.  Oh well, back to the drawing board.  Probably have more idea once we have been to see him.

Am I going totally nuts, or did I at some time see suggestions for cat names on Purrs.  I have searched but no luck.  Can anyone help or should I send for the men in white coats now?
